Will the Summer Make Good for All of Our Sins?
múm Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Please don't cry for hammer in your teeth
We'll spoil the pretty snow that lies beneath
Who go cry for hammer in her teeth
We'll spoil her pretty face at least she feels real
No-go cry for hammer in your teeth
We'll spoil the pretty snow that never feels real

breathe, you breathe
Believe you me tonight
Breath in, breath out
Make good, make float
Bleed you me
_u nott

please don't cry for hammer in your teeth
We'll spoil the pretty snow that lies beneath
And summer will make good for all of our sins
If we only wish it hard enough

breathe in, breathe out
Who go who cry
Believe you me
To night/mum night
Breathe in, breathe out
Make good, make float
Bleed you me
_u nott

she cry, who closes eyes and hopes not to come back

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of múm's song "Will the Summer Make Good for All of Our Sins?" contain a lot of obscure and ambiguous references. The opening lines "Please don't cry for hammer in your teeth, We'll spoil the pretty snow that lies beneath" suggest a sense of destruction and violence, with "hammer in your teeth" possibly signifying a violent act. However, the following line "Who go cry for hammer in her teeth, We'll spoil her pretty face at least she feels real" indicates that the violence may be a cathartic release for the victim. The phrase "she feels real" highlights the potential for emotional numbing and dissociation, suggesting that destruction may be necessary to feel alive.

The song's chorus "And summer will make good for all of our sins, If we only wish it hard enough" suggests that redemption and forgiveness are possible if one has enough faith and hope. The song contrasts destruction and renewal, death and rebirth, and asks the listeners to consider the consequences of their actions.

I first saw this as a kid on VH1 late at night and I was so frightened by it. I felt so sad. I never managed to remember the artist or the song but always felt the urge to watch it again. I looked for years searching for "music video of a doll in the sea" or "doll in water" but never found it. Until today (through sigur ros haha) I feel so satisfied right now. Must have been like 7-8 years of searching haha..

Im a hardcore true crime fan, researching cases since i was like 12 years old, when my grandpa gave me a book about famous murderers in the USA (maybe i was a bit young for that but i turned out ok i guess :D ) anyway, the stories fascinated me, and when i got older, got internet access i continued to deepen my knowledge about true crime. i watched a video about abducted and murdered childred many years ago and this was the music the creator used under it. combine the topic and music and you will understand how my heart sank even though i though im really used to the horrors of this world, múm made the experience gut wrenching for me again.....

What video was this if you don't mind me asking? Was it on Youtube? Been listening to múm for almost 15 years and have never once seen múm used in anything.

M. Lili

@Julian Cardona wish i could help you! All i can remember was this music and one of the many faces was for example Jon Benet Ramsey (i got to know her story from that video also) and its also important to note that video was from 2006-2007! Its possible that they removed it.

Julian Cardona

@M. Lili I'll try and go looking! Thanks for the details!
