In 2006 misono debuted as solo artist at Velfarre, a popular dance club owned by Avex. Her first single VS was released on 29th March, 2006 and was used as the theme song for Namco Bandai's Tale of the Tempest. In total, misono has released eleven singles and two albums as a solo artist. Most of her singles were used as theme songs for various J-dramas, games and movies (e.g. 二人三脚 for Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World).
倖田來未 (Kōda Kumi) is misono's elder sister, who has collaborated with her some times before. Both sisters collaborated in 2009 under the name 倖田來未×misono for Koda's forty-third single "It's All Love!", which was released on March 4, 2009.

The lyrics of misono's song SPEEDRIVE tell the story of a couple who enjoy driving together. However, while the singer (presumably misono herself) is excited to move forward in their relationship, her partner seems hesitant to take the next step. Even though they've been together for a while, he hasn't yet shown any signs of committing to her. Meanwhile, she's getting increasingly frustrated with his indecisiveness and lack of direction. Despite this, she is determined to keep moving forward, even if it's just on her own.
The verse "AKUSERU zenkai donkan" (full throttle, no brakes) adds to the sense of urgency and impatience in the lyrics. She's ready to take things to the next level, but her partner is holding her back with his hesitation. The chorus, on the other hand, is more hopeful and optimistic. She declares her love for him and assures him that she understands him better than anyone else does. The bridge talks about how they enjoy the same music and have similar interests, but that's not enough for her. She wants him to commit to their future together, and she's willing to keep fighting for it.
