Jacob Marshall and Dave Elkins began what would become Mae by writing their first song, "Embers and Envelopes", in Marshall's living room. The band signed with Tooth and Nail Records and released their first album, Destination: Beautiful, in 2003. They released their second full-length album, The Everglow, in 2005. The band toured extensively to promote it, and also performed on the Vans Warped Tour. Mae re-released The Everglow in 2006, adding three new songs and a 2-hour DVD.
Later in 2006, the band announced that they had fulfilled their contract with Tooth & Nail and signed to Capitol Records for their third full-length album. Mae began recording the album in the fall of 2006, working with producer Howard Benson (who has produced albums for Saosin, My Chemical Romance, and Relient K). It is titled Singularity and was released on August 14, 2007. On June 19, 2007, the band released their first single from the upcoming album titled "Sometimes I Can't Make It Alone".
Mae split ways with Capitol Records in 2008. The band has embarked on a year-long independent project, releasing one song every month with all proceeds going to benefit humanitarian projects of the band's choosing. The first four months were compiled into the (m)orning EP. The next four months will be released as (a)fternoon and the final four as (e)vening.
According to Elkins in a 2003 interview, while the band members are Christians, Mae is not a "Christian band".
On September 24, 2007 Mark and Rob parted ways with Mae.
The two replacement members for touring are 20-year-old Josiah Schlater on bass and Robert Smith on keyboards. Schlater and Smith are members of the band Tokyo, also from Virginia Beach.[5]Official site: http://www.whatismae.com

Let It Die
MAE Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've gone and made a mess tonight
With retaliation on my mind
I'm already through
It's a losing game
When we keep trading pain for pain
Oh I'm tired and I don't want to make the enemy out of you
When we wage war
And then peg the future to what came before
But when we talk about forgiveness
It's the way that we can love each other
Let it die so that death can bring life again
You know that I am hurt too
But I'm here to make amends tonight
Reconciliation on my mind
It's all I can do
It's a losing game
When we keep on trading blame for blame
Keeping count of all the wrongs we've made
Oh honey I'm through
Can we make peace?
So the anger and the pride release
And then we'll talk about forgiveness
It's the way that we can love each other
Let it die so that death can bring life again
Keep searching until we see it
And along the way we'll trust each other
Let it lie what is left is a light again
I want to see you
Again in time
With brand new eyes
Oh I need you to see me
Invite the light
And darkness dies
And we make love the surrender
Then rise above
Then we can walk into forgiveness
It's the way we truly love each other
Let it die so that death can bring life again
Hold it high what is left is a light again
But when we talk about forgiveness
It's the way that we can love each other
Let it die so that death can bring life again
And keep on moving to forgiveness
(Hold it high what is left is a light again)
Then keep on moving to forgiveness
(Hold it high what is left is a light again)
The lyrics of MAE's song Let It Die are about the aftermath of a painful fight or situation where both parties have been hurt. The opening lines of the song, "I know I've hurt you, I've gone and made a mess tonight, with retaliation on my mind, I'm already through," establish this context. The singer acknowledges that they have contributed to the hurt and damage, but rather than continuing the destructive cycle of pain and blame, they seek to work towards reconciliation and forgiveness. The phrase "let it die" is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the need to let go of the past and move towards healing.
The lyrics of the chorus, "But when we talk about forgiveness, it's the way that we can love each other, let it die so that death can bring life again," suggest that forgiveness is not only possible but necessary for a healthy and loving relationship. The idea that "death can bring life again" implies that while the past hurt and pain may need to be acknowledged and dealt with, it is possible to move forward and build something new and positive.
The bridge of the song, which includes the lines "And we make love the surrender, then rise above, then we can walk into forgiveness," suggests that forgiveness is not just about letting go of past hurts, but about actively choosing love and surrendering to it. The phrase "hold it high what is left is a light again" reinforces the idea that choosing forgiveness and love can bring light and positivity into our lives.
Overall, the lyrics of MAE's Let It Die encourage listeners to prioritize forgiveness and reconciliation over continued conflict and pain. While acknowledging the hurt and damage that has been caused, the song emphasizes the transformational power of forgiveness and the potential for new beginnings.
