on Kids off the Estate
Yeah that street lights on and I'm still out
Grew up fast and had no doubt
I'd make it in this godforsaken town
Nintendos came second hand
And Clifton park was Disney land
Oh and we want for nowt
And never get let down
And we stay out till late
The kids off the estate
Mothers had to wait
Cos those boys will be boys
You don't have to hate
The kids off the estate
Mates after a feyt
And they called them Reytons
Jumpers thrown on a patch of dirt
On that corner field in last seasons shirt
Till the windows break but they're never gonna catch us now
We've got quids for the corner shop
But when he turns his back we're gonna take the lot
And he can run quite fast but he's never gonna track us down
And we stay out till late
The kids off the estate
Mothers had to wait
Cos those boys will be boys
You don't have to hate
The kids off the estate
Mates after a feyt
And they called them Reytons
UV lights on the council flats
No camera's work but still hoods and caps
Cos if the cops roll by we're gonna have to stash the lot
Eight missed calls and you're late again
You read it's twelve fifteen on a thirty two ten
But you don't go back cos you know they'll be trouble and war
And we stay out till late
The kids off the estate
Mothers had to wait
Cos those boys will be boys
You don't have to hate
The kids off the estate
Mates after a feyt
And they called them Reytons
Yeah that streetlights on and I'm still out
Grew up fast and had no doubt
I'd make it in this godforsaken town
Time moves fast and we slow down
Loser dream while chase inbound
Cos we want it all and forever get let down
Still we stay out so late
The kids off the estate
Mothers had to wait
Cos those boys will be boys
You don't have to hate
The kids off the estate
Mates after a feyt
And they called us Reytons

on Mind the Gap
"Mind The Gap" is a phrase used, in Sheffield (Where the Reytons originate) by both sets of supporters of the professional football teams, United and the other lot, when their club is higher up the football league structure than the other. This would suggest, to me, that the song is specifically about football 'firms' (gangs of violent hooligans) facing off. This is supported by the brand of clothing named which are particularly popular with same.
