She was born in Par… Read Full Bio ↴Yaël Naïm is a French-Israeli singer and songwriter.
She was born in Paris in 1978 to Jewish-Tunisian parents. At the age of four, she moved with her family to Ramat HaSharon, Israel, where she learned Hebrew and trained as a pianist. She served in the Israel Defence Forces as a soloist in the Israeli Air Force Orchestra. She began her singing career with a part in the musical "Les Dix Commandements," and her first solo album, In A Man's Womb, was released in 2001. According to a Songfacts interview with her, it disappointed Yael, who decided she would be much happier giving up her dreams of stardom and making music on her terms.
She also sang the song "You Disappear" by Bruno Coulais for the film Harrison's Flowers directed by Elie Chouraqui. For her early work she was credited simply as Yaël.
Naïm joined forces with percussionist David Donatien, and over a period of two years they arranged and recorded thirteen of Naïm's songs in a studio in Naïm's own appartment in Paris, and these were released as her second album, Yael Naim, in the fall of 2007 on the Tôt Ou Tard label. The songs are in French, English, and Hebrew and received critical acclaim, and the album entered the French album chart at #11 the week after its release. The style has been described as having a touch of folk and a touch of jazz, with mysterious and evocative words sung with a delicate and intentionally slightly husky voice.
In January 2008, her song "New Soul" was featured in the debut commercial for the MacBook Air laptop. The song gained fame from being featured in the ad, and it has peaked, as of February 1 2008, at #2 on the iTunes Top 100 Downloaded Songs.

tried hard to build myself independently
it's hard to always do what you expect from me
saying come home
come home
i try to understand why it hurts you
to see the difference in our points of view
don't blame me for a thing that I didn't do
saying come home
come home
it's insane
how feeling so much shame
will only bring you pain
and I no longer know how to explain
see i'm happy as can be
and you're my family, my ground
and i'm just hoping one day i will find you
you're holding back the tears when you kiss me
smile smile when i'm back again as you see me
when years are passing by and you miss me
you're saying come home
come home
such a shame
you're feeling so much blame
and yet i'm still the same
and i no longer know how to explain
see i’m grateful as can be
'cause you’re my family, i'm bound
and i'm just hoping one day you will shine through
let's try to look at each other
find one another
asking how can it be
fighting and loosing each other
thinking the other
is not so much like me
finding out all that we see
is just not always what is real
that you come home
come home
just come home
come home
my turn to understand what you lived through
today i only feel how i miss you
so it's only fare, when it's hard to bare
and you ask if i, i try to come home
come home
The song "Come home" by Yael Naïm and David Donatien is a heartfelt plea from someone who is trying to break free and finally become independent, to their family to understand their journey and just come home. The song is filled with emotions of love, pain, and the struggle to find balance between family and personal freedom. The lyrics suggest that the desire for independence is not to break away from family, but rather to live as an individual, and to be accepted as such without being criticized or judged.
The song inspires the listener to reflect upon the importance of family, the pain of separation, and the endless pursuit of freedom. As the song progresses, the singer urges their family to open up and try to understand their perspective, hoping that they will one day find each other again.
Overall, "Come home" is a beautiful song that touches on deep emotions and speaks to anyone who has ever felt the desire for independence or the pain of separation from loved ones.
