The band consists of Max Collins (vocals, bass), Jon Siebels (guitar, vocals) and Tony Fagenson (drums).
The band has released four albums, "Eve 6" (1998), "Horrorscope" (2000),It's All In Your Head (2003), and Speak in Code (2012). Two of the band's singles, "Inside Out" and "Here's To the Night", reached the Top 40 in the United States.
Reunited and re-energized, the band returned with a new album called Speak In Code eight years after parting ways in 2004. As the fourth full-length release for Eve 6 and their debut on new label Fearless Records, the album heralds not just a return to form for the threesome, but a new chapter in a book that had ended all too abruptly.
āOverall I'm really proud of it, and I think we're doing right by our fans, whoāve waited a long time for us to make another record. I think we're giving them something they'll enjoy,ā says singer/bassist Max Collins. āOnce we got in the studio there was a lot of energy. There aren't any filler moments; each song has its purpose. This is the strongest collection of songs we've ever had on one record.ā
In many ways, Speak In Code is a work with deep personal significance for Collins, who has weathered his share of personal adversity. The album is a testament to coming out okay on the other side, with friendships still intact, but itās within the journey that the story truly lies. Whether itās romantic relationships or dealings with his bandmates, communicationāand its barriersāis a central theme underpinning the release.
āIn some of the songs frustration is a theme. I was sort of looking at difficult personal relationships with a humorous spin in some places, and with more earnestness in others,ā explains Collins. āThe title [Speak In Code] is a lyric from āCurtain,ā and there was something kind of evocative about it. In that song, I'm referring to being newly sober and just feeling like an open nerve, feeling freaked out, having people and life being sort of overwhelming. It's almost like people are speaking a language you don't understand.ā
First single āVictoriaā lyrically weaves a tale that draws the listener into a hook-laden, 80ās-influenced anthem, putting a contemporary spin on the classic Eve 6 sound. ā[āVictoriaā] indulges this paranoid what-if fantasy that kind of has a foot in the truth: My wife went on this girlsā vacation to Mexico, and when I was looking through the photos, I saw my imagination start to go, and wrote that song,ā Collins recalls. āI'm convinced in my mind that somethingās going on that really isn't.ā
Far from being just some nefarious nostalgia cash-in, Speak In Code is a genuine example of triumphing over oneās obstacles, both professionally and personally, seven years in the making. Eve 6 say the time rebuilding was essential to regaining their footing, which seems more solid in 2012 than ever. "In a lot of ways, the years leading up to this album release was a bit of a āpaying our duesā situation. We certainly had to earn the right to have this opportunity again,ā says Fagenson. āThis time around I think we realized just how hard it is to really get a rock band going and just when you think you're near the finish line you realize there's another hundred miles to go. But all that work and time simply strengthened our belief in what we were doing, and it was a crucial aspect of our development. It really taught us about stick-with-it-ness and perseverance."
"The time we spent apart really made us appreciate what we have in each other. It's a chemistry you can't manufacture,ā adds Collins. āWe literally grew up playing music together. The bond that we have as a result of so much shared experience infuses the sound of the band."
With Speak In Code slated for an April 24th release, the band is gearing up for their much-awaited reintroduction to fans. Now part of the Fearless Records family, itās a guarantee Eve 6ās music will reach a wide, eager audience of potential devotees, and a full slate of touring behind the release is slated for 2012. Diehards who caught the band live in prior years will undoubtedly be thrilled to see the trio once again on stage, but it will be a somewhat older, definitely wiser group that greets them. According to Collins, itās all good.
āWeāre looking forward to playing new songs, and reconnecting to the fans with new material,ā says Collins. āI feel this profound gratitude to the other two guys in my band. We've been through a lotāwe've had the mountaintop moments and the Death Valley momentsāand we're still here today, we all get along, and we made this thing together. It's almost miraculous, to me. There's this convergence that goes on for something that's bigger than the sum of its parts, and that's such a joyful, cool fucking thing.ā

Inside Out
EVE 6 Lyrics
I would swallow my pride
I would choke on the rinds, but the lack thereof would leave me empty inside
Swallow my doubt, turn it inside out
Find nothing but faith in nothing
Want to put my tender
Heart in a blender
Watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion
Rendezvous, then I'm through with you
I burn, burn like a wicker cabinet
Chalk white and oh-so-frail
I see our time has gotten stale
The tick-tock of the clock is painful, all sane and logical
I want to tear it off the wall
I hear words in clips and phrases
I think sick like ginger ale
My stomach turns and I exhale
I would swallow my pride
I would choke on the rinds, but the lack thereof would leave me empty inside
I would swallow my doubt, turn it inside out
Find nothing but faith in nothing
Want to put my tender
Heart in a blender
Watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion
Rendezvous, then I'm through with you
So Cal is where my mind states
But it's not my state of mind
I'm not as ugly sad as you
Or am I origami, fold it up and just pretend
Demented as the motives in your head
I would swallow my pride
I would choke on the rinds, but the lack thereof would leave me empty inside
I would swallow my doubt, turn it inside out
Find nothing but faith in nothing
Want to put my tender
Heart in a blender
Watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion
Rendezvous, then I'm through with you
(Rendezvous)
I alone am the one you don't know you need
Take heed, feed your ego
Make me blind when your eyes close
Sink when you get close, tie me to the bedpost
I alone am the one you don't know you need
You don't know you need me
Make me blind when your eyes close
Tie me to the bedpost
I would swallow my pride
I would choke on the rinds, the lack thereof would leave me empty inside
Swallow my doubt, turn it inside out
Find nothing but faith in nothing
Want to put my tender
Heart in a blender
Watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion
Rendezvous, then I'm through
Now I'm through with you
Through with you
Rendezvous, then I'm through with you

OK, I have a standard response to this kind of thing.
Socrates said the same thing about the music of Plato's generation.
I'm older than you, and the thing I assert you should grasp is that there is good music in any generation, it's just that, when you get older, other "more immediate" things take precedence... work, family, etc., so you stop cultivating sources for new music. And all the old friends who also used to be sources for info about cool new bands are doing the same thing, so they stop finding the Good Stuff and sharing.
I do agree, there's lots of pop dreck out there. There's been pop dreck in every generation. The 60s was probably best, here, because even a lot of the dreck wasn't too bad. For every "Hey Jude" there was a "Sugar Sugar" (which isn't horrible but still very low-rent pop). The 70s were probably worst at this, since a good chunk of the pop is disco, which... well, the less said, the better. It was good to dance to, but not much more. For every "XTC" in the 80s, someone was doing garbage like "Oh, Cherie" and "We Sang This Shitty" and "Sarah (sarah sarah sarah sarah sarah sarah sarah sarah sarah sarah)"**
** The really really SAD thing is those last two came from the "same" band that created White Rabbit.
But I digress.
For modern stuff, I can offer you a number of bands -- will they suit your tastes? No idea. But I think you will agree, they are not pop dreck. Hopefully, you will like them.
Look into
Madrugada
Kosheen
Hafdys Huld
Conjure One
Turin Brakes
Poe
Those are mostly productive in the "00's".
I've lacked any new sources for great stuff for the 10s, so... open to suggestions.
