The Wayward Wind
Gogi Grant Lyrics

The wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind

In a lonely shack by a railroad track
He spent his younger days
And I guess the sound of the outward-bound
Made him a slave to his wanderin' ways

And the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind

Oh, I met him there in a border town
He vowed we'd never part
Though he tried his best to settle down
I'm now alone with a broken heart

And the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind

The next of kin to the wayward wind

65 years later this song is still going strong! One of the best songs I have ever heard. Gogi did a masterpiece with this song.

Dennis Mc laurin

The ending music(as well as the opening) would make an interesting ring tone

It was and is one of a kind Jorge. Thanks for commenting and keep listening.

Man, this takes me right back to 1956 when I was 11 years old -- sounds as good today as it did then. Thanks for posting this aural gem.

Gary Saraceno

I was 11 in 1956 also. It is a special song has a uniqueness to it

Dan Casey

My pleasure Robert. I love it when a song brings back memories.

Harold Kameya

This was a favorite in the jukebox in my father's restaurant on Maui, way back in the '50s. The flamboyant French horn intro and the pulsating rhythm (and Gogi's voice) made this song a one-of-a-kind!

Dan Casey

It still is one of a kind. Thanks for sharing Harold.

My dad, a WWII vet, used to sing this song..always stopped and listened, then he’d talk of his experience on Iwo 👍🏻
