"Mambo No. 5" became an instant worldwide hit, charting in the top 5 across Europe and in the USA, where it became a popular stadium anthem at sports events. It was also used by the British television broadcaster, Channel 4 for their coverage of Test Match cricket between 1999 and 2005. Interestingly, the original version by Perez Prado was also featured in a popular Guinness commercial of that year.
In 1999 he released the album A Little Bit Of Mambo which included Mambo No. 5 and the hits "1+1=2", "I Got a Girl" and "Tricky". On December 13, 1999, this album was certified triple platinum by the RIAA. To date, he has sold almost 4 million copies in the U.S. alone. He followed this up in 2001 with Ladies And Gentlemen.
He recorded the song "Baby Keep Smiling" with Compay Segundo.
In the video game Tropico, Lou Bega is one of the characters a player can choose as his dictator persona. He was included as part of a licensing deal that also saw one of Bega's songs integrated into the German release of Tropico.
His third studio album, Lounatic, was released in late 2005. The first music video released was "You wanna be Americano" followed by "Bachata".

Mambo No. 5
Lou Bega Lyrics
Ladies and gentlemen, this is Mambo Number Five
One, two, three, four, five
Everybody in the car, so come on, let's ride
To the liquor store around the corner
The boys say they want some gin and juice
But I really don't wanna
Beer-bust like I had last week
I must stay deep because talk is cheap
I like Angela, Pamela, Sandra and Rita
And as I continue, you know they getting sweeter (uh)
So what can I do? I really beg you, my Lord
To me is flirting is just like a sport
Anything fly, it's all good, let me dump it
Please set in the trumpet
A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita's all I need
A little bit of Tina's what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica, here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man (ah)
(Hey)
Mambo Number Five (ah)
Jump up and down and move it all around
Shake your head to the sound
Put your hand on the ground
Take one step left and one step right
One to the front and one to the side
Clap your hand once and clap your hands twice
And if it looks like this then you're doing it right
A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita's all I need
A little bit of Tina's what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica, here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man (ah)
(Ah)
Trumpet, the trumpet
Mambo Number Five, hahaha
A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita's all I need
A little bit of Tina's what I see
A little bit of Sandra in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Jessica, here I am
A little bit of you makes me your man (huh)
I do all to fall in love with a girl like you
'Cause you can't run and you can't hide
You and me gonna touch the sky
(Hey)
Mambo Number Five (ah)

@Eva Salomon so if you donât understand, this song became an meme in an certain community for an game called Doki Doki Literature Club. Itâs an dating sim with four girls and one of the girls is named Monika. This game ainât what it is though. I said it was an dating sim but thatâs what it looks like at first, actually the game is an horror game, thatâs why in the comment they made the text all glitchy looking. Itâs an good game if you like horror and visual novels but it does have dark themes in the game like Suicide.
If you donât wanna play the game then I will just tell you what is it about. SPOILERS BELOW!
So in the game, your the main character, an boy who joins an club because your childhood friend dragged you there. Your friend is apart of the literature club and tells us to go to the literature club with her. You go to the club with her and meet 3 other girls in the club. Thereâs an total of four girls in the club and their names are:
Monika: president of the club.
Sayori: Vice President of the club. Your childhood bestfriend.
Yuri: the quiet one of the club.
Natsuki: the mean one of the club.
You join the literature club and become friends with all of the girls. You write poems and show them to each of the club members each day while waiting for the festival coming up soon. One day, you get to go home with one of the girls in the club (except Monika and Sayori) and do plans and decorations for the festival. If you choose Yuri, you make banners together and paint them (I donât fully remember the Yuri route that well lol but itâs something like that.) if you choose Natsuki, you bake cupcakes together for the festival. Before you meet Yuri/Natsuki though, you meet up with Sayori. She is really down and sad and you wonder whatâs wrong with her. She tells you whatâs wrong with her. Sayori had bad depression all her life. After you meet up with Yuri/Natsuki and do the things with them for the festival, you meet up with Sayori again afterwards and she is sad again. At this moment, you confess to her. You can say âyouâll always be my dearest friendâ or âI love youâ. Whatever option you pick leads up to the same thing. Next day, Sayori ainât answering her phone and you go to the literature club and you meet Monika. She knows everything that happened between you and Sayori at the confession. She says something like âyou kinda left her hanging this morning, you know?â An few minutes later, you read one of Sayoriâs poems and it says âget out of my headâ over and over. You run over to Sayoriâs house and you gently open the door and see Sayori hanging in her room, dead. It says the game ends and it returns to the title screen but everything is glitched, Sayori is glitched out on the title screen. You start an new game and it starts the game without Sayori because sheâs dead and itâs like she doesnât exist and never existed. Itâs basically the game all over again but some bad things happen. So in the game, thereâs an poem minigame. if you did poems for Natsuki, you will see this jumpscare screen of Natsuki really sad and mad that you didnât play with her and talked with Yuri. Natsuki and Yuri argue a lot so they kinda dislike each other. Natsukiâs eyes glitch out and turn black and blood comes from her eyes. She shouts âPLAY WITH ME!â and her neck snaps and she jumpscares the player. Natsuki doesnât die though in that scene for some reason though. If you did poems for Yuri, she will go out the club room to do something and she takes long so you check up on her. You peer around the corner and see Yuri cutting her wrists with her knife. Everything rewinds back like you didnât see that happening. Later on in the game, Monika and Natsuki leave the classroom and itâs just you and Yuri. She is obsessed with you and loves you. You confess to her and the options are âYesâ or âNoâ. It does the same thing either one you pick. When you click on one of the options, Yuri laughs and gets louder and louder then suddenly, Yuri gets out her knife and stabs herself in the chest. You watch her dead corpse for the whole weekend and all the text at the bottom of the screen is all glitchy and you have to skip the text which may take awhile. itâs the festival now. Natsuki walks into the classroom and notices Yuriâs dead corpse on the floor and she runs out the classroom vomiting. Monika walks in and just says âwell thatâs an shameâ or something like that. Monika says sorry to us that the text on the bottom of the screen when Yuri is dead was broken and glitchy. Monika then suddenly deletes Yuri and Natsuki from the game so they die. Suddenly, the game resets and it starts with Monika staring directly at us. Monika killed everyone in the club just to be with us. Thatâs why a lot of the replies and in the comment they say âJust Monikaâ because in the game, itâs just you and Monika alone in the club room. You can actually delete Monika and kill her in the game. If you donât delete her, you will just stay with Monika forever. Thatâs it. It you delete Monika though, she dies and the game resets with all of the characters again except Monika. Everything is normal until Sayori thanks us saying âthanks for getting rid of Monika.â Sayori knows everything that Monika did and everything gets all glitchy. Monika then comes back and deletes the literature club and everyone again after realising the club ainât safe. The game ends. At the end of the game, Monika starts speaking to us. In the game, Monika says she practices piano so she wrote an song and at the end of the game, she sings it. Itâs called âYour Reality.â The game ends with loads of credits and images of the girls all getting deleted and then the game ends with an poem from Monika. There is an good ending of this game where you get an poem from the creator of the game but thatâs hard to get. Thanks for reading if you did read it :)
