Bega had a multicultural upbringing as his mother is Sicilian and his father is from Uganda. Bega spent time in Miami during his teenage years.
"Mambo No. 5" became an instant worldwide hit, charting in the top 5 across Europe and in the USA, where it became a popular stadium anthem at sports events. It was also used by the British television broadcaster, Channel 4 for their coverage of Test Match cricket between 1999 and 2005. Interestingly, the original version by Perez Prado was also featured in a popular Guinness commercial of that year.
In 1999 he released the album A Little Bit Of Mambo which included Mambo No. 5 and the hits "1+1=2", "I Got a Girl" and "Tricky". On December 13, 1999, this album was certified triple platinum by the RIAA. To date, he has sold almost 4 million copies in the U.S. alone. He followed this up in 2001 with Ladies And Gentlemen.
He recorded the song "Baby Keep Smiling" with Compay Segundo.
In the video game Tropico, Lou Bega is one of the characters a player can choose as his dictator persona. He was included as part of a licensing deal that also saw one of Bega's songs integrated into the German release of Tropico.
His third studio album, Lounatic, was released in late 2005. The first music video released was "You wanna be Americano" followed by "Bachata".

Lou Bega Lyrics

And I know that she is comin´ that she is comin´ from above
Everytime I see her I just can´t get enough
She is cute she is pretty and sometimes she is tough
She is my beauty
She is my beauty on the tv-screen — yeah she is !
And when you see her you would know what I really mean
yes she got legs that reach the skies
And she has eyes that are open wide
So please could you jump out that damn tv
And put those little arms all around me
There is nothin´ yeah there is nothin´
Like that little butt
Planned out designed and coproduced by god
Yeah when I see you I just can´t get enough
'Cause she is cute and pretty and sometimes she is tough
She is my beauty
She is my beauty on the tv-screen — yeah she is !
And when you see her you would know what I really mean
She will never dissapoint me she will never make me cry
She will never ever play me but her lovin´ let´s me die
She will never dissapoint me she will never make me cry
She will never ever play me but her lovin´ let´s me die
She is my beauty
She is my beauty on the tv-screen — yeah she is !
And when you see her you would know what I really mean
The lyrics to Lou Bega's song "Beauty On The TV-Screen" are about the obsession and infatuation someone feels towards a female television star. The singer describes her as being his "appetite for love" and believes that she is a gift from above. He cannot seem to get enough of her, as she is cute, pretty, and sometimes even tough. The lyrics suggest that the woman embodies the perfect female form with long legs and her eyes that are open wide. The singer is so deeply infatuated with her that he wishes she could jump out of the TV and wrap her little arms around him.
The chorus of the song further emphasizes the singer's obsession with the woman, who he refers to as his "beauty on the TV-screen." He claims that others who see her will know what he means because she is that strikingly beautiful. The singer further professes that the woman will never disappoint him, make him cry, or play him, and because of her love, he is willing to die.
In summary, the song "Beauty on the TV-Screen" is about a person's obsession with a female television star. The lyrics express a deep infatuation with the woman's beauty and how the singer wishes nothing more than for her to be tangible and to be able to hold her. The song presents an interesting but not uncommon theme of idolizing unattainable figures in the mass media.
