Working for the Weekend
Loverboy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning

Everyone's watching, to see what you will do
Everyone's looking at you, oh
Everyone's wondering, will you come out tonight
Everyone's trying to get it right, get it right

Everybody's working for the weekend
Everybody wants a new romance
Everybody's goin' off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from the start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let's go

Everyone's looking to see if it was you
Everyone wants you to come through
Everyone's hoping it'll all work out
Everyone's waiting they're holding out

Everybody's working for the weekend
Everybody wants a new romance
Hey, hey
Everybody's goin' off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from the start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let's go
Hey

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from the start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let's go

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from the start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let's go

This song is a celebration of the weekend and the desire to let loose and have some fun after a long week of work. I was in college in 2002, in a bar, 19 years old, getting drunk on our fake ID's. I put a $10 bill in the jukebox. That got a lot of songs back then. I played Loverboy Working for the Weekend every single play of that $10. When the song came on, you could see people nodding there heads, getting into it. No one noticed the second time it played. The thrid time people started looking around getting angry. The plug was behind the machine hanging on the wall, no one could stop it. IT was a solid 45 minutes or so of Working for the Weekend, over and over. One of my life's greatest accomplishments.

Youtube and the internet has made the jukebox obsolete, unless you want offline access or don't want to get hacked or tracked.

Played this on cassette over and over in my Camaro back in the 80s. The 80s were the absolute best for music and actually life. No cell phones or internet. Life was awesome in a small Ohio town. Miss it very much!

make it monte carlo and I did the same thing

Jdewitt: I am 58 yrs old and can honestly say growing up where and when I did was a true blessing. I thank my parents, who are now both gone, for letting me live the life I did in that small Ohio town. I get very emotional when I go back "home". It was the best of times for sure. The way our country is currently headed is very sad. I wish it was still the 1980s!!!

You are so right. It was the best time of my life in so many ways that's for sure. Especially the music.

I saw them about 12 years ago at Gulfstream Park Horse Racing track. The lead singer was wearing red leather just like in the video. He was laughing at himself, the leather was a bit tight. What a Great concert
