The Boys Of Summer
Don Henley Lyrics

Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer's out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets
The sun goes down alone
I'm driving by your house
Don't know you're not home

But I can see you
Your brown skin shining in the sun
You got your hair combed back
And your sunglasses on, baby
I can tell you, my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy
Remember how I made you scream
I don't understand what happened to our love
But, babe, I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna show you what I'm made of

I can see you
Your brown skin shining in the sun
I see you walking real slow
And you're smiling at everyone
I can tell you, my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said
Don't look back, you can never look back
I thought I knew what love was
What did I know?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let 'em go, but

I can see you
Your brown skin shining in the sun
You got top pulled down
Radio on, baby
I can tell you, my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

I can see you
Your brown skin shining in the sun
You got hair slicked back
Wayfarers on, baby
I can tell you, my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

The sound of this song just has a summer feeling to it

Ryan Good

Always gave me like august/September changing of the seasons vibe

BlueSteel920

Sounds like a song you’d be driving with on a summer night on a highway

Faith, Hope and Love, イエスはあなたのことをとても愛してくれています。

Don't look back you can never look back. This song. No words describe the feelings it makes. Those guitars...that perfection.

My God, can't believe it's been 30 years now. This tune is so timeless. It captures everything I am and everything I will ever be in my life. The love, the youth, the joy and the pain.

"Those days are gone forever; I should just let them go."

This song is hell on the feels.

I use to play this song to my dad while holding a 'Dad, I'm Sorry' sign everytime he used to be angry with me for either not doing my homework, coming home late or getting into fights at school or the streets. This used to be our favourite song. Wish you could see me now dad. RIP. Will always love and miss you.

This is what it means to be a teenager in the 1970's and 80's. Fifty-one and still means everything to me to hear it.

I don't think this video would have been as effective in color. The black&white gives it a European film noir vibe that matches the mood and theme of the song perfectly. It's still one of the 80's best 31 years later.
