People Are Strange
Echo & the Bunnymen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down
When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange
People are strange is when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down
When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange
Yeah
People are strange is when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down
When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange
The song "People Are Strange" by Echo & the Bunnymen is a cover of the original by The Doors. The lyrics explore the theme of alienation and the feeling of being an outsider. The opening line "People are strange when you're a stranger" sets the tone for the song as it suggests that people behave differently towards strangers. The second line "Faces look ugly when you're alone" indicates that when you are alone, even familiar faces can become unappealing. The third line "Women seem wicked when you're unwanted" suggests the feeling of rejection that can make people see everything in a negative light. Finally, "Streets are uneven when you're down" highlights the fact that when one is feeling down, everything seems more difficult.
The chorus, "When you're strange, faces come out of the rain, when you're strange, no one remembers your name" highlights the sense of invisibility and anonymity that comes with being an outsider. The rain symbolizes the hardships of life, and it is during these troubling times that people are most in need of help and support.
Overall, the song is a commentary on the human condition and how we all struggle to fit in and belong. The lyrics are broad enough that they can be interpreted in a variety of ways, and this is one of the reasons why the song has continued to resonate with listeners over the years.

Yeah no one is mentioning this being a Doors cover and the Vamps had a Giant Jim Morrison poster or painting in their lair "you're one of us Michael" see it was just like a peer pressure thing he wanted to ride motorcycles drink wine get the pretty girl etc he just moved there and was trying to fit in with a new clique who turned out to be dangerous could happen to anyone.
