Time Of The Season
The Zombies Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When love runs high
And this time, give it to me easy
And let me try with pleasured hands
To take you in the sun to (promised lands)
To show you every one
It's the time of the season for loving
What's your name? (What's your name?)
Who's your daddy? (Who's your daddy?)
(He rich?) Is he rich like me?
Has he taken (has he taken)
Any time (any time)
(To show) To show you what you need to live?
Tell it to me slowly (tell you what?)
I really want to know
It's the time of the season for loving
What's your name? (What's your name?)
Who's your daddy? (Who's your daddy?)
(He rich?) Is he rich like me?
Has he taken (has he taken)
Any time (any time)
(To show) To show you what you need to live?
Tell it to me slowly (tell you what?)
I really want to know
It's the time of the season for loving
The lyrics to the song "Time of the Season" by The Zombies are a reflection of the sexual liberation and free love culture of the 1960s. The song makes use of a seductive tone to encourage sexual exploration, with the metaphor of taking someone to the "promised land" representing the euphoria that can be attained through sexual pleasure. The lyrics also touch on themes of social status and material wealth, with the repeated question about the father's financial status implying that such things are important factors in romantic relationships.
The chorus of the song is a repetition of the idea that it is the "time of the season for loving", which is a nod to the cultural shift towards sexual freedom and experimentation during that era. The singer is asking their lover to bare their soul to them, and to satisfy their curiosity about their life and desires. The line "tell it to me slowly, I really want to know" suggests that the singer is eager to explore not only physical intimacy but emotional intimacy as well.
Overall, "Time of the Season" is a song that celebrates the spirit of the 1960s counterculture, with its embrace of sexual freedom, anti-establishment sentiment, and questioning of traditional values.

You ever get a feeling of an old memory as you listen to a song like this that you loved? A sensation of being there? In 66 I was 8 years old. I'm 65 now. I dearly love this song. I'm taken back to a warm summer day in my early teens in the car with a warm summer breeze blowing in the window. A feeling I rarely repeated. Some songs turned into treasures because of that feeling. At 65 I just sat here and listened to this song for the first time in years, and I went right back to that place. Suddenly I was 15 again. It brings back a warm summer day with sunshine and a warm breeze. Incredible music ahead ๐ถ of its time.

YES. I feel the same

I could've said it better, and this song does the exact same thing for me. That was a great time to be a kid.

I am mere 35 years old yet listening to this song now reminded me of my teenage years when I was discovering 60s and 70s music. I can certainly relate to the early memories triggered by other songs. The organ music in Walk of Life by Dire Straits is something I heard as a child in the car but I didn't realise it was that song until many years later.
