The Red Death
[Thrice] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Entertain the hope that somehow you'll escape me
Weld the bolts and close the iron gate
Drink deeply the illusion of your safety

My how wishful thoughts inebriate, masquerade, and revel in your opulence
Writhe unfettered by your stabs at ignorance
Swim through hues and whispered tones of here say
A dozen strokes to run your blood cold enough to believe
Remember me? You look so surprised to see me here
With hell's black wings did I over perch these walls

For stony limits cannot hold me out
And now you all die

Overall Meaning

The song "The Red Death" by Thrice is a thought-provoking piece that is open to interpretation. It is possible that the song is about the inevitability of death and how people can delude themselves into thinking they are safe from it. The singer seems to be personifying death, suggesting that it is a force that will eventually catch up with us all, regardless of any measures we take to avoid it. The lyrics "Entertain the hope that somehow you'll escape me" and "Drink deeply the illusion of your safety" suggest that people might be in denial about their own mortality. The reference to the "Red Death" could be a symbolic representation of the bubonic plague, which killed millions of people in the 14th century.

The lyrics seem to suggest that people might live their lives without fully embracing the reality of death. The line "My how wishful thoughts inebriate, masquerade, and revel in your opulence" could mean that we get so caught up in our lives that we forget about the inevitability of death. The "opulence" could symbolize how people get wrapped up in their own lives, thinking that their affluence or status can insulate them from harm. However, in the end, death cannot be avoided. This is hinted at in the line "Stony limits cannot hold me out, and now you all die."

"It takes
And it takes
And it takes
And we keep living anyways
We rise and we fall and we break and we make our mistakes
And if there's a reason I'm still alive when so many have died
Then I'm willing to wait for it
I'm willing to wait for it"
Batman isn't willing to wait for it

The Al Johnson Show

5 things that stood out to me in this story:

1. Was Earth -52 supposed to be a subliminal diss to the New 52?

2. I like the design of Batman: Red Death and the Dark Multiverse.

3. Isn't it obvious that the dark voice inside of Red Death is.... Joker???

4. There were some subtle references to Dark Knight Returns.

5. I am very intrigued at the origins of the evil Batmen that is coming.

batso 109

I liked Batman no matter unbelievable the stories he was in, liks...

The time he was fighting Darkseid in his mechasuit to find some crystal that would bring his son back to life and would five him superpowers

Or the time he would turn into a bat due to Amazo

Or the time Joker managed to haul things out of the Batcave in Endgame ( where did he get those swords)

Or the time he had to stop a plane from falling and took out some rockets from... Somewhere.

Or when DC showed us that Talia was a crazier villian tham Ra's.

But these stories are just getting too outragious!!!
