Daho is best known in Britain for his appearence on the number 11 Saint Etienne hit single "He's On The Phone", which is an English-language adaptation of his 1984 French-language hit "Weekend à Rome". He also collaborated with Saint Etienne on the Resurrection EP, his album Eden, and his single "Le Premier Jour", itself based on the track "Ready or Not" from Sarah Cracknell's 1997 solo album "Lipslide".
He has worked with many other artists, such as Chris Isaak, Marianne Faithfull, Elli Medeiros, Astrud Gilberto, Vanessa Daou, the Swingle Singers, and more. His duet with Charlotte Gainsbourg, titled "If", was released in 2004.
His 1996 album Eden featured a mix of electronic-oriented songs, ranging from downtempo ballads to drum 'n' bass-influenced tracks, and HiNRG dance. Corps & armes (2000) saw Daho return to a more orchestral sound fuelled by traditional instruments, such as piano, acoustic guitar, and horns. In 2004, he released Réévolution, which featured a guitar-heavy rock sound.
In 2012, he produced and composed songs for French comedian/singer Lou Doillon for her first album Places.
Étienne Daho is one of the most influential French pop singers of the last four decades. His extensive work has seen him collaborate with many artists, and explore a wide range of musical styles.

J'ai envie de faire un tour
U ne petite pluie me r? veille
Fra? cheur me d? sensommeille
Quatre? quatre l'escalier
Je monte te r? veiller
La vie est douce parfois
On ne sait m? me pas pourquoi...
In Étienne Daho's song "Tu dors encore," the singer is awake during the early morning hours and feeling a sense of restlessness. The blue and white hues of dawn have awoken the singer, and they feel the urge to take a walk. A light rain invigorates the singer, and they feel refreshed despite being sleepy. The singer muses about the early morning activities of others, such as children going to school and coffee shops opening, while the person they address in the song, who they love and who is presumably their partner, still sleeps.
The singer finds joy in small things, such as playing in puddles and feeling the raindrops on their neck. They sing and enjoy the rain without the need for an umbrella. As the sun rises and changes the colors of the sky, the singer heads up the stairs to wake up their lover, reflecting on the sweetness of life that sometimes occurs for no particular reason.
The song's lyrics are simple but evoke a sense of joyful restlessness that can occur during the early morning hours. The repetition of "et toi, tu dors encore" (and you, you're still sleeping) emphasizes the contrast between the singer's wakefulness and their lover's stillness. The song's use of rain as a symbol of renewal and refreshment contrasts with the typical association of rain with melancholy.
