Originally calling themselves the A Cappella Circle when they were at the University of Waseda, they changed their name to the Gospellers in 1991 after graduating. They spent the next ten years working towards national recognition, releasing 24 singles and 9 albums during that time. They became the first complete a cappella group to be in the top 3 of the Oricon chart ranking in Japan with their song, "HITORI".
In early 2006, the group made a side-project release, Gosperats, featuring the members in blackface and singing with a jazzier accompaniment Rats & Star's member Masayuki Suzuki, Nobuyoshi Kuwano and Yoshio Sato. Many of the western Gospeller fans were upset about the outrage it caused on some discussion forums, many non-fans felt offended by the blackface the group members had chosen to take on. Fortunately, this project was announced as a side-project and released only one album under its name.
The members of Gospellers are now producers for several Japanese artists, including Tatsuya Ishii and Masayuki Suzuki. (This text has been cited from Wikipedia)
逃飛行
ゴスペラーズ Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
遠ざかる 背中見つめた
もしもあなたが 消えてしまえば
愛すべき人などない
Hey Hey その前に
このまま世界の果てへ
二人で堕ちてゆけたら
身体も溶け合うまで
傷付ける術もない 弱い自分に
当然のラストシーンさ
いつかあなたが こぼした涙
拾いもできずに抱いた
Hey Hey
The lyrics of ゴスペラーズ's song 逃飛行 depict a sense of desperation and longing for a deep connection with someone. The singer expresses the pain of not being able to touch the person they care for, watching them drift away. They contemplate the possibility of that person disappearing from their life, and in that scenario, they believe there would be no one left to love. The lyrics convey a sense of urgency and a desire for an escape from reality.
The chorus suggests that before the person disappears, the singer wants to fall together with them to the end of the world, where their bodies would dissolve and merge as they burn out. The lyrics acknowledge their own vulnerability and lack of ability to hurt the other person, as they accept the inevitable ending as a natural final scene. The singer reflects on the tears shed by the person they love, unable to pick them up and only holding onto the memories. They contemplate abandoning everything and wandering without any destination, as they affirm that their final destination would be the same sky.
In summary, the lyrics of 逃飛行 articulate the pain of unrequited love and the longing for a deep connection. The singer contemplates the possibility of losing the person they care for and expresses a desire for an intense and all-consuming love before the inevitable end.
