Originally calling themselves the A Cappella Circle when they were at the University of Waseda, they changed their name to the Gospellers in 1991 after graduating. They spent the next ten years working towards national recognition, releasing 24 singles and 9 albums during that time. They became the first complete a cappella group to be in the top 3 of the Oricon chart ranking in Japan with their song, "HITORI".
In early 2006, the group made a side-project release, Gosperats, featuring the members in blackface and singing with a jazzier accompaniment Rats & Star's member Masayuki Suzuki, Nobuyoshi Kuwano and Yoshio Sato. Many of the western Gospeller fans were upset about the outrage it caused on some discussion forums, many non-fans felt offended by the blackface the group members had chosen to take on. Fortunately, this project was announced as a side-project and released only one album under its name.
The members of Gospellers are now producers for several Japanese artists, including Tatsuya Ishii and Masayuki Suzuki. (This text has been cited from Wikipedia)

I gotta go I gotta go
you gotta go
you gotta go
Breaking my heart
I gotta go I gotta go
you gotta go
I gotta go
You gotta

I gotta go
You gotta go
These lyrics capture the emotions and thoughts of someone who is about to say goodbye to a lover or a relationship. The first verse expresses the feeling of wanting a final kiss and struggling with the words, realizing that saying goodbye means truly parting ways. The repetition of "I gotta go, you gotta go" emphasizes the inevitability of the separation.
The second verse suggests that once the goodbye is said, there is no going back – the memories will remain memories. The singer contemplates leaving behind the farewell kiss and the burden of guilt on their back. They acknowledge the loneliness that comes with being alone but decide to discard these emotions before looking back.
The chorus speaks of a broken love story, emphasizing the missed opportunities and the new tomorrow that lies beyond the doors they passed. The singer suggests that unjust breakups cannot be justified, and even though it breaks their heart, they ask for nothing but to be forgotten by their former love. They reject the idea of betrayal.
The following verse talks about praying in a smile and receiving sweet kisses in tears, indicating the mixed emotions experienced in the relationship. The singer grows tired and wants it to end, wishing that the foolish conclusion remains in the past. They express their willingness to let go of the sadness and start anew.
The final repetition of "I gotta go, you gotta go" reiterates the necessity for both parties to move on. It emphasizes the need to let go of the farewell on the lips and the burden on the back. The lyrics end with the determination to continue until the sentimental journey concludes, saying goodbye with "Sayonara." The repetition of "you gotta go" implies that both individuals need to find their separate paths.
