With a career spanning over 40 years (beginning in the late 1970s), he is best known primarily as a record producer (for acts like MISIA, Satoshi Tomiie, and 平井堅, among others).

Sagisu is best known for being the composer of the popular anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, Bleach and His and Her Circumstances among many others.

Mother is the first "other" we meet. I'm not educated on the topic but my understanding is that lacanian ego formation is driven by recognition of the other's gaze, and the hegelian master-slave dialetectic is another view of ego-formation as driven by another. (Name drops just to give you terms to look up if you want more of this stuff)

A bastardized summary: to be a self, you have to recognize yourself as separate of the other first. This division, this "I am me, you are you" is the first recognition that sets in motion the formation of the ego. We can only exist insofar as we are separate from the other. We are defined in the ways in which we are not the other. Our self exists only in relation to the other. Lines up perfectly with the themes of the show and the Instrumentality project in particular

@@varnull6120 well said. As a young teen, learning these concepts in the show was mind-altering in the most literal sense.
At first it felt very unsettling(that I attribute to heavy pot use), but after a while, it felt very enlightening and also very comforting.
My mother was/is mentally ill, to say the least, and mine and my sisters childhood were nightmares. To top it off, we were starved of any social maturity by being homeschooled through most of our developmental years.

Being a teenager on top of knowing you’re not normal is deeply painful. And as strange as it sounds, Eva helped me come to terms with a lot of mental health issues I’d suffered with.

Kawuro is really nice but he's kind of a side character that plays more of a role in the personal development of Shinji
but yeah I think I'll go with Shinji since most of the stuff we see is in the eyes of him and he is the most relatable character and some of my favourite scenes in the series like this one is about him
