The same month, they gave a concert in the Shimokitazawa Shelter. Their first mini album SONIC DEAD KIDS was released on September 8th, followed by their single-tape and two other releases the following year.
Together with the band Straightener they released a split-cassette on March 6th, 2002, which has been long sold out since its release. The band's success continued into summer for two main reasons; first because of their appearance at the Fuji Rock Festival and second because of their contract with the major label Toshiba EMI. ART-SCHOOL released a new single that October and their first full-length album, REQUIEM FOR INNOCENCE, the following November.
Their first nationwide tour took place in January 2003, with the gig in the Shibuya Club Quattro being sold out on the first day. EVIL, their second major single, was released in April and again they were part of a big Japanese rock festival, the Japan Circuit in June. The following tour left a great impression and ensured the band's future success. The year continued with more releases and, unfortunately, ended with Oyama and Hinata leaving the band in December.
2004 began with the release of their first live album BOYS DON'T CRY in March. The support musicians Masafumi Todaka (guitar) and Takeshi Uno (bass) became official band members and would become a big influence on Art-School's future musical progress. To celebrate this new formation, they gave a free concert in the Shibuya O-East, which was attended by 10,000 people.
Their following releases were successful as well and made it possible for them to play at several festivals and events. They changed their label to Pony Records in the middle of the year, published a new mini-album and spent some time in Glasgow, Scottland to record their third full-studio album PARADISE LOST. The following PARADISE LOST TOUR 2005 provided enough material for their fist live DVD, sleep flowers, which was released in December 2005.
ART-SCHOOL continued to go strong from 2006 to 2007 with the release of two singles and two albums. Along with their releases, they kept themselves busy with various live shows and ended 2007 with a coupling tour with OGRE YOU ASSHOLE.
As for 2008, ART-SCHOOL released ILLMATIC BABY, a new mini-album which was produced by Yutaka Furukawa of DOPING PANDA. ART-SCHOOL then embarked on a tour with DOPING PANDA, OGRE YOU ASSHOLE, the telephones, THE NOVEMBERS, UNCHAIN and VOLA & THE ORIENTAL MACHINE as guests.
In April of 2009, Yuichi Sakurai (Drums) announced that he is leaving the band to form his own. ART-SCHOOL's last show with Sakurai was on the 8th May 2009 at the Chiba LOOK Livehouse.
ART-SCHOOL have since released two more albums, 2009's full-length 14SOULS and 2010's mini-album Anesthesia.
Takeshi Uno (Bass) and Hiroyuki Suzuki (Drums) left the band in December 2011 and started other projects.
Then On May 21st, the band held a free live, ‘DAY OF THE DEAD‘, at Shibuya CLUB QUATTRO with their new support members, bassist Nakao Kentaro (from Crypt City) and drummer Fujita Isamu (from MO'SOME TONEBENDER).
In August 2012 they released a new album called "BABY ACID BABY" under Ki/oon (means sony.jp)
and continue in March 2013 they released a mini album called "The Alchemist"

ART-SCHOOL Lyrics

この眼をつぶった I'm missing
これ以上何も I'm missing
これ以上誰も You are missing
触れるたびに 遠くなっていった
君の名前さえも 僕はきっと
きっと
スライドのフィルムが
変わるみたいに I'm missing
あなただけが I'm missing
過ぎ去っていった
You are missing
The lyrics of ART-SCHOOL's Missing speak of the feeling of missing someone and the passage of time that inevitably causes distance and change, yet also the possibility of preserving memories through the medium of film. The verse "Today too, I'm missing, I'm missing with my eyes closed, Nothing more than this, no one more than you are missing" sets the mood of longing and sadness, with the repetition of "I'm missing" emphasizing the unfulfilled desire to be with the person who is absent. The following lines "Every time we touch, you get farther away, Even your name, I will surely, surely" suggest that memories are gradually fading and becoming more distant, despite the efforts to hold onto them.
The chorus brings the theme of film into focus, with the lines "As if the slide film, I'm missing, changes, Only you, I'm missing, have passed by, You are missing" alluding to the physical change and impermanence of captured images, but also their ability to freeze a moment in time. The repetition of "you are missing" reinforces the sense of loss and absence, while the lines "You haven't changed anything, I haven't changed anything, But someday, as the film changes, That smile, those lips, surely, surely" suggest the hope that even though time moves on, some things remain constant and timeless in memory.
Overall, the lyrics of Missing evoke a bittersweet feeling of longing for what has passed, yet also a sense of appreciation for the fleeting beauty and transience of life and love, conveyed through the metaphor of film.

I think my favorite part is when Masafumi is smiling while hoola-hooping. I love him :D But yea, the whole idea of everyone being against the main couple makes me sad, and so does the ending, but it's nice that they'll be together forever.

On the DVD, the transition between the Missing PV and the Tupero Honey PV says "One year later...". This isn't the first video connection that ART-SCHOOL has had. Watch the Evil PV then watch the Under My Skin PV. The monk is the drummer. He loves bananas. >_<

Kinoshita's lyrics are strange and sometimes unfinished or "too" adult, thus they don't have many Japanese fans. The lyrics are correct, aside from some minor errors, but the meaning is still the same.

The thing is, I politely informed him of mistakes in his Scarlet translation, and when he asked me to send him a retranslation if I was so sure of myself, I sent him a detailed message explaining his errors and how to fix them along with a correct translation, whereupon he promptly deleted all my comments saying that his translation was incorrect, and he never replied to my message. People that refuse to fix their mistakes, especially with translations, disgust me.

I would have said "shoddy" before my experience with trying to politely inform him about the mistakes in Scarlet (my favorite ART-SCHOOL song). XD Personally I think he's too prideful to admit his mistakes and correct them, from how he was rude to me when I commented that there were a lot of mistakes in Scarlet. Oh well, at least because of him most of the PVs are up here, even though the translations aren't as good as they should be. Have to give him that much.

I think he is singing about how he couldn't be with someone because even if they don't think they are changing everybody changes and they grew apart. The only way they could be together is if they were to die, because that would stop them from changing... however, that isn't exactly feasible.
