Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Stoking our anger and fear
Further dividing the classes
Serving the richest's careers
Their mantra is lies and deception
When honesty's all that I crave
I decline and there'll no exceptions
No one's slave
No one's slave
Living in fear ain't worth living
Wasting your life is the crime
The reaper will be unforgiving
Wake up, while you're still in your prime
The guide of my life is my conscience
My way is the path that I pave
I treat, how I want to be treated
I am no one's master
No one's slave
No one's slave
I won't rule
I won't bow
I won't sink my eyes to the ground
I won't steal
I won't kneel
I won't bend my knee to the crowned
I pledge an oath to myself and to life
I'm not afraid of the sword or the knife
The guide of my life is my conscience
My way is the path that I pave
Equality's all that I'm after
I am no one's master
No one's slave
No one's slave
No one's master
I am no one's
No one's slave
The song "No One's Master" by Accept is a political anthem that speaks about the control of the media over the masses, the division of society into classes, and the importance of individuality and conscience. The lyrics suggest that the media is serving the interests of the wealthy and powerful by spreading lies and fear among the people, which further divides them into slaves and masters. However, the singer refuses to be a part of this system and decline to follow the herd blindly. Instead, he pledges his allegiance to himself and his conscience, striving for equality and living his life with integrity.
The lyrics are a strong indictment of the media's influence on society, particularly in the current political climate where misinformation and propaganda are rampant. The song's message is clear, urging people to take control of their own lives and not allow themselves to be manipulated by the ruling elite. The lyrics also emphasize the importance of living one's life with purpose and treating others with kindness and respect, rather than succumbing to greed, power, or social status.
