Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Overnight Sensation

On the Hollywood Walk of Fame
'Cause I'm a big deal, yeah
On the internet wall of pain
I don't need to drive no car
I'm never gonna work that hard
I just need more speed and my own domain
Each and every afternoon
I get hearts and tears, wows and cheers
I never even leave my room
I need instant gratification
I'm an overnight sensation
A subject of adoration
Overnight sensation
Gonna be an overnight sensation
I wanna be famous for nothin'
Just like a Kardashian
Tell the world my whole life story
Even though I don't have one
I can teach you to paint by number
How to freshen up your page
You're gonna get my opinions
'Cause I'm a boss, and it's my stage
I get smiles and frowns, ups and downs
It doesn't matter what you choose
I get hearts and tears, wows and cheers
Just wanna get a million views
Gimme instant gratification
I'm an overnight sensation
Craving the admiration
Overnight sensation
Oh, I need no justification
Overnight sensation
Gonna be an overnight sensation
I get smiles and frowns, ups and downs
It doesn't matter what you choose
I get hearts and tears, wows and cheers
Just wanna get a million views
I need instant gratification
I'm an overnight sensation
I'm a source of agitation
Overnight sensation
I never even had a graduation
I'm an overnight sensation
It's all viral masturbation
Overnight sensation
I'm gonna be an overnight sensation
The song "Overnight Sensation" by Accept explores the theme of fame and the desire for instant gratification in today's digital age. The lyrics convey a sense of cynicism towards traditional fame, as the singer declares they do not want to be a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Instead, they feel like a big deal on the "internet wall of pain," highlighting the superficiality and fickleness of online recognition.
The lyrics also touch upon the notion of achieving fame without any particular talent or substance, comparable to reality TV stars like the Kardashians. The singer wants to share their "whole life story," even though they admit they don't have one. This reflects the culture of oversharing and the desire for attention that exists in the age of social media.
The song captures the paradox of the digital era, where individuals can attain fame and adoration without leaving their room. The line "I never even leave my room" signifies the isolation that can come with seeking validation solely through online platforms. Despite this, the singer craves the "smiles and frowns, ups and downs" and the "hearts and tears, wows and cheers" that come with being an overnight sensation.
Overall, "Overnight Sensation" paints a critical picture of the cult of instant fame in today's society. It questions the value and authenticity of this kind of recognition and highlights the inherent emptiness of chasing fame without substance.
