Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Winter Dreams
Accept Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Flickering candles in the room. Hear the churchbell ring.
See the children playing. I fell the pure delight,
And the snow is falling, taking me away.
Cold winter nights, cold winter dreams,
Reflecting the sound of my heart; it's my taste of freedom.
Cold winter nights, cold winter dreams,
Don't try to tear me apart; cold winter dreams
Wish you would be here in this magic scene.
I've escaped from reality, dancing in the snow.
Cold, blue sky gives me the innocence I need.
Cold winter nights, cold winter dreams,
Freezing the heat in my heart; it's my taste of freedom.
Cold winter nights, cold winter dreams,
Chill me and tear me apart; cold winter dreams.
The world seemed so clear, like a wonderful diamond,
Can't imagine there's meaness. Can't imagine one lie
But when I'm dead and gone and snow's pouring down,
I'm burried and covered, peaceful under millions of stars.
Cold winter nights, cold winter dreams,
Reflecting the sound of my heart; it's my taste of freedom.
Cold winter nights, cold winter dreams,
Don't try to tear me apart; cold winter dreams

The opening lines of Accept's "Winter Dreams" set the scene for a peaceful winter night, with snow on the mountains and fog in the street. The flickering candles in the room and the sound of the church bell ringing create a cozy atmosphere. The singer watches children playing outside and feels a sense of pure delight. As the snow falls, the singer is whisked away into a dreamlike state.
Throughout the song, the singer seems to be seeking a sense of freedom and peace. He finds himself "in peace, warm from underneath," and imagines a world without meanness or lies. The cold winter nights and dreams become a kind of refuge, freezing the heat in his heart and providing a taste of freedom. Despite the chilly and potentially isolating imagery, the song ultimately presents a tranquil and somewhat romantic vision of winter.
One possible interpretation of "Winter Dreams" is that the singer is using the cold winter nights as a metaphor for an emotional state. The sense of peace and freedom he finds in the snow could be seen as an escape from the difficulties of his life. The song suggests that it's possible to find tranquility even in difficult times, if you're able to let go and let yourself be swept away.
