R'lyeh The Dead
Adagio Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Grey walls, surrounding, like a prison in hell
Rising, stronger, beyond Earth is the god,
Mightier, meaner, he's the new born master
Listen to the spells down under,
Join and celebrate,
Serve of the black empire
Hear the ghosts whistle sonata,
Sing and join your hands
From now one, your flesh,
Belongs to my master,
R'lyeh the Dead, soon will blacken the horizon
Look at, the Earth, pierced by rising terror,
Kneel down, and watch, the throne of your new master
Listen to the spells down under,
Join and celebrate,
There is no further need to hide,
Serve the black empire
The lyrics in Adagio's song R'lyeh The Dead convey a sense of impending doom and darkness. The first two lines describe the approach of an unknown entity, an unwelcome presence that moves with the silence of death and with a coldness that chills the bones. The grey walls that surround it represent an enclosing prison, a fortress unbreakable and insurmountable. The god it speaks of is one of power and might, and it is clear that the god represents an entity of chaos and destruction. As the song progresses, the lyrics urge the listener to join in and celebrate the rise of this god, to serve the new master.
The chorus speaks of the spells that are being cast, and the call to join in is repeated. It is clear that there is no escape from what is coming. The second verse builds on this sense of impending doom, with the Earth itself pierced by terror and darkness. The image of a throne being watched by those who have submitted to the new master is a powerful one, invoking a sense of being trapped and helpless.
Overall, these lyrics paint a very vivid picture of an unfathomable and frightening entity that has entered our world, and the inevitability of submitting to its will. The use of imagery and powerful words makes it clear that this is not something that can be fought or resisted.

I'm glad that people appreciate this and I wish more people could.. And again I am also glad that they are underground. I may not like it as much if it was as popular as all those other bands =/
