Heavily influenced by his idol, Elvis Presley, and the 1950s rock revolution, he is also known as the most famous dancer of the Hula hoop fad. For the last 40 years he has retained his popularity in Italy, selling millions of records and appearing in numerous TV shows and movies (including a short appearance in Fellini's La Dolce Vita, before becoming a famous artist). In the latter respect, he has also been a creator of a comic genre, with his characteristic walking and his facial expressions. For the most part, his films were commercially successful, in fact in the 1970s and part of the 1980s, he was the king of the Italian box office in low budget movies. As an actor, critics point to Serafino (1968), directed by Pietro Germi, as his best effort.
As a director he frequently casts Ornella Muti, Eleonora Giorgi and his wife Claudia Mori. His best movie like director is "Yuppi Du", winner of The Golden Palm at Cannes Festival. He and Claudia are the parents of Rosita, Rosalinda and Vincent Celentano, the latter most notable to worldwide audiences for playing the Satan character in Mel Gibson`s The Passion of the Christ. He also works often as a host for several Italian television shows.
His 1968 song "Azzurro" has regained popularity in 2006, due to it being the anthem of the Italian national football team (the Azzurri) who won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The artist Vincent Fiorello has also created a remix of the song.
His last concert-event in 2012, after 18 years without live performances, was transmitted on Canale 5, with over 9 million viewers both evenings.

Pay Pay Pay Pay Pay
Pronuncio giusto il tuo nome
E' proprio PAY?
Pay Pay Pay Pay Pay
Pay Pay Pay Pay Pay
Dimmi il reggae, telo fai?
Mai, mai, mai, mai, mai
La destra in giu
La destra eccola qua.
Sinistra in su
Sinistra, eccola qua
Riunire dai
Ma in politica che fai?
Che dici mai
E da voi c'e?
Artisti non ce n'e
Si spara o no?
Armarsi non si puo.
La grana c'e
Un povero lascio.
Pay pay pay pay pay
Pay pay pay pay pay
Ma tu l'amore sul pianeta
Te lo fai?
Pay Pay Pay Pay Pay
Pay Pay Pay Pay Pay.
Non ho capito bene
Un uomo tu ce l'hai?
By, by, by, by, by.
C'e Superman
Tienitelo tu
E' uscito anche...
Non lo reggo piu
Ma e un uomo buono.
Uno come me
E non ce n'e
Ci credi o no
Io ci credero
Mi piaci tu
Tanto anche tu
E grazie a te
(Ti) Prego
Grazie a te
Mi sento donna

O PAY PAY PAY PAY PAY
The lyrics of Adriano Celentano's song Pay Pay Pay seem to be a satirical take on society's obsession with materialism and money. The repetition of the word "pay" throughout the song emphasizes the importance of money and how it seems to be all-consuming for both individuals and society as a whole. The opening lines, “Pronuncio giusto il tuo nome, E' proprio PAY?" translate to "I pronounce your name right, is it really PAY?" and can be interpreted as a rhetorical question about whether money is the most important thing in society.
In the first verse, the lyrics shift to a discussion about different political ideologies and how they approach money, with lines like "La destra in giu, la destra eccola qua, sinistra in su, sinistra, eccola qua." which means "Right down, right here, left up, left here". These lines can be seen as a commentary on how politicians are similar regardless of their political affiliations. The chorus then repeats, emphasizing the importance put into material possessions.
In the second verse, there is a reference to Superman, "C'e Superman, Tienitelo tu, E' uscito anche... Non lo reggo piu, Ma e un uomo buono. Uno come me, E non ce n'e." This can be seen as a critique of society's obsession with superheroes and how people seem to need a symbol of hope to feel secure even though a world with perfect superheroes does not exist. The chorus then repeats again and ends with "Amore il raggae, Insieme a me impe(a)rerai, Volare Via, E stare in terra, Lo vedrai", which can mean that the essence of life is not found in material things, but rather in love and music, despite the chaos and hardships of life.
