Wunderkind
Alanis Morissette Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh, perilous place walk backwards toward you
Blink disbelieving eyes chilled to the bone
Most visibly brave no apprehended bloom
First to take this foot to virgin snow

I am magnet for all kinds of deeper wonderment
I am a wunderkind
And I live the envelope pushed far enough to believe this
I am a princess on the way to my throne
Destined to serve, destined to roam

Oh, ominous place spellbound and un-child-proofed
My least favorite shelter bear alone
Compatriots in face they’d cringe if I told you
Our best back pocket secret our bond full blown

And I am a magnet for all kinds of deeper wonderment
I am a wunderkind
And I am pioneer naïve enough to believe this
I am a princess on the way to my throne
Destined to seek, destined to know

Most beautiful place reborn and blown off roof
My view about face whether great will be done

And I am a magnet for all kinds of deeper wonderment
I am a wunderkind
I am a groundbreaker naïve enough to believe this
I am a princess on the way to my throne

And I am a magnet for all kinds of deeper wonderment
I am a wunderkind

I am a Joan of Arc and smart enough to believe this
I am a princess on the way to my throne

Destined to reign, destined to roam
Destined to reign, destined to roam

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Alanis Morissette's song Wunderkind tells a story of a young person who views the world with childlike wonder and innocence despite being faced with adversity and danger. The song is characterized by vivid imagery and metaphors that describe the inner thoughts and emotions of the singer. The first stanza describes a perilous place that the singer is walking towards, where they feel a sense of apprehension and vulnerability. However, they also feel a sense of bravery and courage as they are the first to venture into this unknown territory.

The second stanza describes an ominous place that is not child-proofed, and the singer is left to bear it alone. They share a secret bond with their compatriots, who also feel the same sense of wonderment and awe about the world. The third stanza describes a beautiful place that has been reborn after being blown off the roof. The singer is still a magnet for deeper wonderment and continues to believe that they are destined to reign and roam.

The lyrics of Wunderkind convey an empowering message about the power of faith, courage, and self-belief. The singer sees themselves as a wunderkind, a groundbreaker, and a Joan of Arc. This person is destined for greatness and will continue to explore and discover the world, no matter how perilous it may seem.

They really hit the mark for the ENTIRE soundtrack for this movie. I don't think there's another movie out there that can accomplish what they did for the full soundtrack..

@Malubvra

I will never forget this movie. I had read the book when I was a child, but seeing this with my family in the cinema on Christmas Eve 2005 was by far the best cinema experience I’ve ever had. It probably always will be.

In those days I suffered from depression and didn’t go out much. I remember getting all dressed up and wearing a mythical themed scarf for the occasion. To see the book brought to life like this was astounding. It was so hard to hold back the tears.

A magical experience I will never forget.
