I'm sorry if I seem uninterested
Or I'm not listenin' or I'm indifferent
Truly, I ain't got no business here
But since my friends are here
I just came to kick it but really
I would rather be at home all by myself not in this room
I don't dance, don't ask, I don't need a boyfriend
So you can go back, please enjoy your party
I'll be here, somewhere in the corner under clouds of marijuana
With this boy who's hollering I can hardly hear
Over this music I don't listen to and I don't wanna get with you
So tell my friends that I'll be over here
Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here oh oh oh
I ask myself what am I doing here?
Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here
And I can't wait till we can break up outta here
Excuse me if I seem a little unimpressed with this
An anti social pessimist but usually I don't mess with this
And I know you mean only the best and
Your intentions aren't to bother me
But honestly I'd rather be
Somewhere with my people we can kick it and just listen
To some music with the message (like we usually do)
And we'll discuss our big dreams
How we plan to take over the planet
So pardon my manners, I hope you'll understand
That I'll be here
Not there in the kitchen with the girl
Who's always gossiping about her friends
So tell them I'll be here
Right next to the boy who's throwing up 'cause
He can't take what's in his cup no more
Oh God why am I here?
Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here oh oh oh
I ask myself what am I doing here?
Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here
And I can't wait till we can break up outta here
Hours later congregating next to the refrigerator
Some girl's talking 'bout her haters
She ain't got none
How did it ever come to this
I shoulda never come to this
So holla at me I'll be in the car when you're done
I'm standoffish, don't want what you're offering
And I'm done talking
Awfully sad it had to be that way
So tell my people when they're ready that I'm ready
And I'm standing by the TV with my beanie low
Yo I'll be over here
Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here oh oh oh
I ask myself what am I doing here?
Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here
And I can't wait till we can break up outta here
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Alessia Cara's "Here" is a commentary on the concept of partying and social gatherings. The first verse sets the tone of the song by diving straight into the perspective of the singer. She acknowledges the irony of being in a party where everyone is supposed to be happy and cheerful while she is standing in a corner isolated and secluded from the crowd. The second verse reinforces her disengagement and highlights her disdain for the environment by calling herself an anti-social pessimist. The chorus repeatedly asks the question "what am I doing here?" expressing her lack of interest in the party and the people around her. These lyrics were written as a reflection of the singer's actual experience of being at a party where she felt out of place and disconnected.
The third verse highlights the singer's desire to be among like-minded people who share her passions and dreams. She touches on the idea that people could come together over something common and meaningful, rather than just simple inconsequential gatherings. The song ends with the singer standing by the TV in someone's house party, waiting for a ride to come and pick her up.

I'm sorry if I seem uninterested
I apologize if I appear disengaged
Or I'm not listenin' or I'm indifferent
It might come across like I'm not paying attention or I don't care
Truly, I ain't got no business here
Honestly, I don't belong here
But since my friends are here
However, I came because my friends are here
I just came to kick it but really
I'm only here to hang out, but to be honest
I would rather be at home all by myself not in this room
I'd rather be alone in my own house than be in this place
With people who don't even care about my well being
Surrounded by folks who couldn't care less about me
I don't dance, don't ask, I don't need a boyfriend
I'm not here to dance or find a partner
So you can go back, please enjoy your party
You should return to the party and have fun
I'll be here, somewhere in the corner under clouds of marijuana
I'll be here, in some dark corner, smoking weed
With this boy who's hollering I can hardly hear
Near a shouting boy who I can barely hear
Over this music I don't listen to and I don't wanna get with you
I don't even like this music, and I'm not looking for romance
So tell my friends that I'll be over here
Inform my pals that I'll be staying here
I ask myself what am I doing here?
I question why I'm even here
And I can't wait till we can break up outta here
I can't wait to leave this place
Excuse me if I seem a little unimpressed with this
I apologize if I appear unimpressed by this environment
An anti social pessimist but usually I don't mess with this
I'm an introverted pessimist who doesn't typically enjoy these things
Your intentions aren't to bother me
I know you mean well and don't intend to disturb me
But honestly I'd rather be
However, the truth is, I'd rather be
Somewhere with my people we can kick it and just listen
Somewhere with my friends, where we can chill and listen to music
To some music with the message (like we usually do)
To music that has meaning (as we usually do)
And we'll discuss our big dreams
And we'll talk about our ambitious aspirations
How we plan to take over the planet
Scheming to conquer the world
So pardon my manners, I hope you'll understand
I apologize for my rudeness, I hope you comprehend
That I'll be here
That I'm going to stay here
Not there in the kitchen with the girl
Not mingling with that girl in the kitchen
Who's always gossiping about her friends
She's known to always gossip about her pals
So tell them I'll be here
Let them know that I'll still be staying here
Right next to the boy who's throwing up 'cause
Next to the disorientated guy who's vomiting because
He can't take what's in his cup no more
He's had too much to drink
Oh God why am I here?
Oh my goodness, why am I here?
Hours later congregating next to the refrigerator
Hours pass before we gather around the refrigerator
Some girl's talking 'bout her haters
A girl is complaining about people who dislike her
She ain't got none
She doesn't really have any true haters
How did it ever come to this
How did we end up in this situation?
I shoulda never come to this
I shouldn't have ever come here
So holla at me I'll be in the car when you're done
Text me when you're finished, I'll be waiting in the car
I'm standoffish, don't want what you're offering
I'm distant, and I'm not interested in what you're offering
And I'm done talking
And I've stopped talking
Awfully sad it had to be that way
It's a pity it had to end this way
So tell my people when they're ready that I'm ready
When my friends are ready, inform them that I'm also prepared
And I'm standing by the TV with my beanie low
I'm standing by the television, wearing a beanie hat
Yo I'll be over here
I'll still be here, doing my own thing
Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here oh oh oh
Repeating the chorus line
I ask myself what am I doing here?
Again, I question why I'm here
And I can't wait till we can break up outta here
I'm eager to leave this place
Oh oh oh here oh oh oh here
Again, repeating the chorus line
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Repeating the ending
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Repeating the ending
