Pannis angelicus
Fit panis hominum;
Dat panis coelicus
Figuris terminum;
O res mirabilis!
Manducat dominum

Pauper, pauper
Servus et humilis.
Pauper, pauper
Servus et humilis.

Panis angelicus
Fit panis hominum;
Dat panis coelicus
Figuris terminum;
O res mirabilis!
Manducat dominum

Pauper, pauper
Servus et humilis.

Pauper, pauper
Servus, servus et humilis.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the song "Panis Angelicus" by Andre Rieu are Latin and translate to "Bread of Angels." The song is a hymn that praises the miracle of the Eucharist, specifically the bread that is believed to become the body of Christ during Communion. The first verse describes how the bread that people consume during Mass is not just ordinary bread but rather heavenly bread. This bread is a representation of the Eucharist that provides nourishment to the soul. The second verse speaks of how the poor and the humble can also partake in this bread and receive the same spiritual nourishment.

Overall, the hymn is a celebration of the Eucharist and the unifying power it holds for all Christians. The song emphasizes that anyone, no matter how poor or humble, can find solace and grace in partaking in this holy sacrament.

Panis angelicus
Ангельский хлеб

Panis angelicus
Ангельский хлеб
fit panis hominum;
Стал хлебом человеческим:
dat panis coelicus
Небесный хлеб -
figuris terminum;
Предел всех мечтаний,
o res mirabilis!
Что может быть прекрасней!
Manducat Dominum
Тело Господне
pauper, pauper
Вкушают нищие, нищие,
servus et humilis.
Слуги и кроткие духом
pauper, pauper
Нищие, нищие,
servus et humilis.
Слуги и кроткие духом.

“Panis Angelicus
Fit panis hominum;
Dat panis caelicus
Figuris terminum;
O res mirabilis!
Manducat Dominum
Pauper, servus et humilis.”

“The Angel's bread
Becomes the bread of men;
The heavenly bread
Ends all symbols;
Oh, wondrous thing!
It is the poor humble servant
That partakes of the Lord.”

Be safe. Be strong.

This is European culture at its highest. An Australian woman of Dutch descent singing a Latin hymn by St. Thomas Aquinas one of the most brilliant philosophers and theologians of all time. The hymn celebrates the bread of angels, Christ the Incarnate Son of God who gave Himself on the cross and presents Himself to us in the Eucharist. Every part of this is a masterwork of love.
