Aspects of love: Love changes everything
Andrew Lloyd Webber Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love, love changes everything
Hands and faces, earth and sky
Love, love changes everything
How you live and how you die
Love, can make the summer fly
Or a night seem like a lifetime
Yes love, love changes everything
Now I tremble at your name
Nothing in the world will ever be the same

Love, love changes everything
Days are longer, words mean more
Love, love changes everything
Pain is deeper than before
Love will turn your world around
And that world will last forever
Yes love, love changes everything
Brings you glory, brings you shame
Nothing in the world will ever be the same

Off into the world we go
Planning futures, shaping years
Love (comes in) and suddenly all our wisdom disappears
Love makes fools of everyone
All the rules we made are broken
Yes love, love changes everyone
Live or perish in its flame

Love will never never let you be the same
Love will never never let you be the same

Overall Meaning

The song Love Changes Everything by Andrew Lloyd Webber is a reflection on the transformative nature of love. In its essence, the song describes how love has the power to change everything in our lives, from our perspectives to our actions, and even to our very identity. In the first verse, Webber sings about the physical transformations that love brings. When in love, our hands and faces become a reflection of the world around us. The intensity of our emotions is such that everything around us seems new and different. The second verse speaks about the emotional impact of love. It highlights how love changes our perception of time and how every small gesture or word of love becomes extremely meaningful. It also speaks about the pain that comes with love, where the hurt cuts deeper than before.

Ok SO APPARENTLY, this was supposed to be a Raoul solo song, but was added to Aspects of Love instead? Michael played Raoul in ‘87 in Phantom before he played Alex. The guy who revised the lyrics for All I Ask of You and went on to work on the rest of Phantom, Charles Hart also worked on Love Changes Everything and Aspects of Love. I don’t know it if true, but there are some interest parallels.

Something cute is that you can literally find a video of Michael and Sierra singing Love Changes Everything on YouTube. Raoul and Christine singing it together 😂

Tbh, this does feel like what a Raoul song would be. And it always did feel off that Raoul never had a solo since he was the protagonist of the book and regardless one of the main characters.

The the transitions are so good so I can see it being hard to figure out where you’d even put a Raoul solo. But I kinda have a bit of an idea. If they were to have a Raoul solo I think the perfect placement would be after Notes II.

Raoul runs off stage after Christine, everyone else leaves. Raoul runs back on stage as if he’s been looking for Christine but couldn’t find her. The sett is slightly different now, maybe just a chair sitting there. He sits and is exhausted and distraught for a moment. Then he starts to sing! At the end he is ready to go looking for Christine again, and then another person comes on stage. Maybe a chorus member. Perhaps they act shaken, to later suggest Raoul’s solo overlapped with the Don Juan rehearsal. Raoul asks them about Christine, and as a call back to the novel, they pass him a note from Christine addressed to him. It asks him to meet her at the graveyard to see her father. Then he leaves, stage goes black, and we go right into the Don Juan rehearsal and it’s all the same from then on, except perhaps we see her handing that person a note before she puts her cloak on and the violin starts.

It wouldn’t mess up any transitions, it would fit perfectly as an arc moment for Raoul, and flow well with the rest of the show. So while normally I really hate the idea of changing the iconic original production, I do love the idea of Raoul having a solo.

So it would be cool if at least certain productions had one. Whether this song or not.

This song was sung to my wife and me at our wedding reception by a friend who was a Broadway actor/singer. Brings back memories of that amazing day > 30 years ago when I married the love of my life. ❤️
