This honestly looks incredible. I've never the full movie however I have watched lots of videos breaking down how they did lots of the illusions on screen. The fact that the colours are so vibrant in this trailer whenever the original scenes were recorded 50 years prior is just breathtaking. It almost gives off the vibes of PC games today that use raytracing.

Not the whole time, as he was dying you could hear the fear and worry developing in his voice. That is why Dave started looking back and forth between Hals Eye and the key he was turning to unlock his partitions. "Im...afraid...my mind is going...I can..feel it...I can feel it.." Dave probably felt like he was killing something at that point.

I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen this movie to watch it in the theatre. It's usually played every year on the big screen in most major cities and it's worth the wait (even waiting out covid). It was designed from the ground up to be played on a massive screen with loud speakers. It's not just a movie, it's a visceral experience. Watching it at home is full of distractions and it's just not the same. Im really lucky that I was able to see it for the first time being re-screened in Toronto with a closing talk from the SPFX director Douglas Trumbull.

Look, i've watched alot of 2 - 3 hours flicks and enjoyed them, Full Metal Jacket is the only Kubrick film i finished, i'm into the art of movie shots and atmosphere and feels. But this one makes me bored and i have no idea why, i'm not a action filled guy and i'm mostly into movies with good dialouge and suspense. Seriously, this movie looks better than most movies made today. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 2001 has aged better than any other movie in cinema. It is from what I've experienced from Cinema, perhaps the only movie I would consider to be completely timeless. In 50 years, this masterpiece will not have aged a day, as it hasn't in the previous 50 years. The only other movie I can think of that also might not age is Schindler's List.

. 2001: A Space Odyssey is a true masterpiece for the ages! It has been my favorite movie for many years, and will continue to be for many more. I also know that the motion picture actor Tom Hanks feels the same way.
When I saw the film for the first time at the Hollywood Pacific Theater, in Hollywood, California, back in 1969, it had been playing there for over a year! In fact it actually screened there for a total of 80 weeks! This was the first time I experienced a film in Cinerama. It was truly breathtaking! I owe a debt of gratitude to my high school teacher, James Maechling, in arranging for my western civilization class to see the film on a field trip. Thank you sir, so much!
In March 1993, the Cinerama Dome Theater, also in Hollywood, held a week-long series of screenings of 2001, to celebrate it's 25th anniversary. I was really thrilled to see the movie in that iconic venue. Hopefully that superb theater will reopen. It's been closed ever since April 2021, because of the COVID pandemic.
Of course, I've seen the film many more times on video since my first viewing. It's gratifying to know that so many people around the world have expressed their appreciation for this monumental work of cinema. The films director, Stanley Kubrick, was a true visionary. His impressive legacy will live on forever.

I think the reason this film aged so well is because instead of focusing on the future and how it "would" look, he focused on what we already knew and decorated it with beautiful colors, shapes, and cinematography. Early in the movie the apeman throws the bone/weapon into the air and it morphs into an orbiting weapons platform, signifying immediately that though we've advanced so far in our technology we are still the apes on the ancient plain killing each other. It's still eerie to me how incredibly accurate all of the space ships, bases and equipment look with their lighting and paint before we really knew what large pieces of human equipment looked like out in space. Those miniatures are breathtaking. The white paint with the correct matte finish with some mismatched shades on panels that may have been "replaced," the crushed blacks where there was no sun, everything. They even correctly predicted the concept of having a twin of a ships onboard computer back on Earth for redundancy to narrow down errors with HAL (similar to the Apollo Guidance Computer[s]).

That crescendo every time the monolith is the focal point is haunting. Underline: Haunting. It makes us feel small. Like we're not getting the whole picture. They were made side by side, with both artists contributing.
You don’t have visuals in book, so its more laid down to the reader.
In movie, more is done by visual storytelling because thats what film can provide.

It is a great piece of art and a milestone in the history of cinema...but to say that it "showed us every aspect of humanity" is just a joke that even Kubrick and Arthur C. Clark would have laughed at.

I’ve seen a lot of great movies. I’ve also seen almost every Kubrick movie and out of the 6 I’ve seen, there isn’t a single one I would give any lower than a 9/10. To make one movie with a 10/10 Is an achievement that likely can’t be repeated. To make several movies in a row. All of which are equally as profound, thought provoking, well crafted, and are of great quality. Is something only Kubrick could do.

6. It was made in 1968!1968..... Sill holds up for the look and feel.
7. Kubrick and Arthur Clarke co-wrote the screenplay and the novel of the same name was released the same year as the movie
8. This space movie was made before the moon landing!
9. Background score gets creepy, story makes no sense yet it makes perfect sense 😂
10.. I found it boring when I saw it the first time my friend never told me that it was made in 1968 so I just saw it as a lame movie. After realising that it was made in 1968 I consider it as documentary of future technology and how tech will one day rule us!

I watched this movie in 2016 for the first time. It's the only movie I saw from beginning to end without pausing, no bathroom breaks, phone completely turned off, no food & drinks. And I kept reminding myself imagine your in the late 60's.
Hands down best sci-fi movie of all time.

2001 a Space Odyssey is a movie that is just... So incredible. I always find my self coming back to it. It's one of the very few films I'd say you can make a solid argument IS the best film ever made.
