Assala's commercial musical career debuted in 1991 with the Egyptian song hit Law Ta'rafou (Egyptian Arabic: لو تعرفو). The album had 4 Egyptian songs in the oriental operatic Classic Egyptian tarab style. The album was an instant hit in Egypt back at that time with heartbreaking songs like "Ya Sabra Yana" and "Samehtak Ketir". She quickly cemented her presence in the Arabic world a growing industry brimming with singers like Angham, Najwa Karam, Latifa, , and Abdelmajeed Abdullah.
Ever since the beginning of the Syrian Civil War, in 2011, Assala Nasri claimed her support for the Syrian rebels and her commitment against Bachar el Assad. Her positions towards the Civil War are human : she wants the conflict to end for the sake of the Syrian civilians. She had her first composing experience in the writing of one song, released in 2011. For her commitment in the conflict, Assala sang at the International Peace day as a new ambassador for "Peace Building Through Music."

Assala Nasri's song "Sabni" is a heart-wrenching ballad about heartbreak and betrayal. The lyrics express the singer's thoughts and feelings after being abandoned by her lover, "Sabni," and choosing to let him go despite the pain. The singer says that every time she thinks about what happened, she asks herself if it really happened, and although it hurt, she knows it was for the best. She then reflects on the state of her life, saying that it was better off without Sabni in it, and that the fire inside of her had been extinguished since he left. She questions what her dignity was worth, as she begged him to stay but he left no matter what. Although it hurts, she realizes that it's better for him to leave, as her heart won't heal at least anytime soon, and that his leaving ultimately saved her from more pain.
The song's lyrics are poignant, with each verse evoking strong emotions of loneliness, hurt, regret, anger, and acceptance. The singer's voice is passionate and emotive, conveying the depth of her emotional turmoil. The melody is slow and melancholic, emphasizing the mournful lyrics and the singer's pain.
