At Will Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To restrain her hands but she's a mechanic
And I've been known to become a machine
If the lights grow dim
I began to pray for rain
Hoping this machine would rust
Do you think that we'll fall in love
We'll just fall in love
We'll be everything
No oil spilled, no gaskets burst
But the mechanic didn't even use her tools
Tears of failure streaming down a face
Worthy of paint, a frame, and the Lourve
Left me pondering the importance of flesh
Do you think that we'll fall in love
We'll just fall in love
We'll be more than friends
We'll be everything
More than friends we'll be...
Everthing
The lyrics of At Will's song Sequence present a story of a person becoming emotionally vulnerable to a mechanic, who is trying to restrain her hands while working on something. The singer compares himself to a machine, as he only becomes more functional when he feels the darkness and the lights grow dim. Hoping that this experience will rust the machine inside him, he starts praying for rain. Then, the singer wonders if they are going to fall in love and if they would be more than just friends. The mechanic did not use her tools, they didn't spill any oil, no gaskets burst, yet he felt tears of failure streaming down a beautiful face as if she has failed him. This made the singer ponder the importance of flesh, implying that being emotionally present is important, too.

Our marching band is supposed to go to Disney world this coming spring, I really hope we get to play in the parade.
Karma
I went to Disney with my band in November of 2021. We were the first High School Marching Band to play at Disney since the pandemic. It's a really surreal experience going down the main street of Magic Kingdom and seeing people cheer you on.
One of the biggest things for me though: my father had passed away that same year in April. He was my biggest supporter in marching band, the Vice-President of the Band Boosters and the man who payed for my trip. He wasn't able to make it, obviously. But I knew he was there in spirit. The entire day it was torrential downpour. Right when we started our march, the rain cleared up. It became sunny as we played. He was there in spirit, protecting us from the rain so that we could give him a good show. Right when we played our very last note and stopped marching in backstage, it began raining cats and dogs again.
My trip to Disney was magical. And I hope yours is/was too. The friends I made, the people I met, the experiences I created. With me I brought a legacy, a remembrance of why I was there in the first place. And to this day, every time I march or play, I can feel him with me.
