Remember that your eyes, can be your enemies
I said, hell is so Close, and heaven's out of reach
But I ain't givin' up quite yet
I've got too much to lose
Hold me down, sweet and low, and I'll carry you home
Hold me down, sweet and low, little girl
Hold me down and I'll carry you home
The rain is gonna fall
The sun is gonna shine
The wind is gonna blow
The water's gonna rise
She said, when that day comes
LooK into my eyes, no one's givin' up quite yet, we've go too much to lose
Hold me down, sweet and low, little girl
Hold me down, sweet and low, and I'll carry you home
Hold me down, sweet and low, little girl
Hold me down and I'll carry you
All the way
And you say your fine
But your still young
And out of line
When all I need's to turn around
To make it last to make it count
I ain't gonna make the same mistakes that put my mama in her grave
I don't wanna be alone
Hold me down, sweet and low, little girl
Hold me down, sweet and low, and I'll carry you home
Hold me down, sweet and low, little girl
Hold me down and I'll carry you home
"Sweet and Low" by Augustana is a poignant song about holding onto hope and finding comfort in the face of adversity. The opening lines, "Anywhere you go, anyone you meet, remember that your eyes can be your enemies" suggest that the world can be a dangerous and deceptive place, and that we need to be careful who we trust. The line "hell is so close, and heaven's out of reach" further underscores the idea that life can be tough and that it's easy to lose faith when we're faced with difficulties.
However, the song's chorus serves as a reminder that we're not alone in our struggles. The repetition of the phrase "hold me down, sweet and low" suggests a desire for comfort and stability, while the line "and I'll carry you home" offers a sense of protection and safety. Later in the song, we hear the lyrics "I don't wanna be alone," which again emphasizes the need for companionship and support.
Overall, "Sweet and Low" is a powerful reminder that we all need help sometimes, and that it's important to find the strength to keep going, even when things get tough.

sometimes you have to be pretty depressed to really appreciate the beauty of songs like this. its more than just words, its the melody, the beat, the feel to the music. you might not feel the emotions in this song as much as others but its there. like Emily Dickinson wrote "success is counted sweetest by those who never succeed"
J.A. Green
Not necessarily being unsuccessful but being melancholy. That's a mixture of reminiscing the past in the missing of a loved one and the bitterness of not knowing you were losing it until it passed and something in the followed future touched upon something familiar that reminds you of something like it from the past and all of that feeling which is called melancholy come running back in and that's when you miss it and start reminiscing it.🌬️☁️📻🎶💃🏻

My favorite thing about Augustana is that they use such a small amount of lyrics but still convey such a huge meaning in every single song.
