Stand By Me
BB King Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yes, she's 36 in the bust, 28 in the waist,
44 in the hip, she got a real crazy leg
You upsets me baby, yes, you upsets me baby
Yes, I'm telling you people she's something fine,
That you really outta see

Well, she's not too tall, complexion is fair,
Man she knocked me out the way she wears her hair
You upsets me baby, Yes, you upsets me baby
Like being hit by a fallen tree,
Woman, woman what you do to me

Well I, tried to describe her, it's hard to start
I better stop now because I got a weak heart
You upsets me, well, you upsets me baby
Well like being hit by a fallen tree,
Woman, what you do to me

Well I, tried to describe her, it's hard to start
I better stop now because I got a very weak heart
You upsets me baby, yes, you upsets me baby

Well I've been hit by a fallen tree,
Woman, what you do to me

Overall Meaning

BB King’s song “Stand By Me” is a love song in which he describes how he is completely smitten with a woman. The opening lines describe the woman’s measurements, which might seem objectifying at first glance, but in fact, BB King’s lyrics are an ode to the woman’s curves and beauty. He describes her as having a “real crazy leg,” which suggests that she is confident and has a unique way of moving.

Throughout the song, BB King expresses how this woman completely upsets him, but in a positive way. He acknowledges that she has something that makes her stand out and that she’s “something fine, that you really oughta see.” He notes her fair complexion and her hairstyle as features that make her attractive, and he seems to be utterly in love with her.

As the song progresses, BB King struggles to fully describe this woman, admitting that it’s difficult to find the right words because of how strongly he feels about her. He ends the song by saying that he better stop trying to describe her because he has a weak heart, which could suggest that he is overwhelmed by his feelings for her.

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No, I won't be afraid
Oh, I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me
So darlin', darlin', stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Oh, stand
Stand by me, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry
No, I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me
And darlin', darlin', stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Oh, stand now
Stand by me, stand by me
And darlin', darlin', stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Oh, stand now
Stand by me, stand by me
Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Won't you stand by

I was adopted by my father who was African American I was a Caucasian boy. I was bullied all the time because my father and I looked so different but he would always tell me, we may look a little different on the outside but we are all the same it’s not what counts on The outside but what’s inside you as a person that’s where your real worth is .my father was an amazing man I worked hard In all aspects whether it would be school training martial arts self defence.
This man was truly my real father no one could make me feel otherwise.
Unfortunately 2 years ago he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer very low life expectancy he battled on as he does he did everything he could to fight the cancer but slowly he deteriorated and
Then it was all of a sudden he was in his death bed.
He passed and we played
This song at his funerals which was one of his favourite as.

Everyone I hear this song I hurt so much just all the emotion coming bag from
Dad, but I also love
It because it make m e feel so close to him once
Again even though I know he’s not with us…

In 1968 I head Ben E. King sing this song at a small club on the coast of SC. King had a small band of 3 or 4 guys and I can still remember the single violin. The venue was not air conditioned. I was 18. The girl I was with was 17. 52 years later we are still a couple. And I still love the song.
