This sounds like a sequel to BANKS' song "Better"... listening to them back-to-back, it's like she went from cooing and aching to her lover: "I can love you better than she can", to realizing the error of her ways... in the end, his love was no good - it turned sour to the point where it controlled her. "Till Now" is the life lesson learned; it's the woman who survived his destruction. The visual to me sparks the representation of "toxic" interacting with the pure; black ink in water, fire engulfing a lily - water and lilies represent the pure. I could be wrong, as this is my interpretation, but this is why I'm in love with BANKS' artistry so much.

I feel this mix. Those vocals are mixing with each other. Her "crying" high notes, and his "laughter' back vocals. Like this relation worked all the time. She was trying to reach him by her sadness in soul, make him realize how much she is suffering from his destructive manipulations and he always laughed about it. Because he is narcissist. So powerful message. Till she realized it's over for good.

What I really love about Banks' music is that although it has sensual and meaningful lyrics about relationships... you can feel and experience her anger in your soul through them and it kind of makes you feel empowered. One thing that I love about this song is that it’s one of the only times she’s expressed anger and resentment by projecting her voice. Usually she’s a lot more subtle and almost covert about expressing it. You’ll either feel it in the music or through the lyrics but not so much in the tone of her voice.
