When I Fall In Love
Barry Manilow Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Or I'll never fall in love
In a restless world like this is
Love is ended before it's begun
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun
When I give my heart it will be completely
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I fall in love with you.
When I fall in love with you.
The lyrics of the song "When I Fall in Love" by Barry Manilow is a testament to the artist's belief that love, true love, is eternal. He states that when he falls in love, it is going to be for good, or he will never fall in love at all. The lyrics beautifully describe the concept of love and its fragility in a world as tumultuous and ever-changing as ours. The artist believes that love often fades away before it even begins. Too many moonlight kisses that seem magical at the time ultimately cool in the warmth of the sun, a metaphor for the reality of how love often loses its passion.
Furthermore, the artist talks about the importance of giving his heart away completely, rather than in bits and pieces. He would rather not give his heart at all, than give it half-heartedly, indicating that love is not a game to be played with. The moment the artist can tell that the other person reciprocates his feelings, that's when he falls in love wholeheartedly. The lyrics of the song convey the message of the importance of sincerity and genuineness when it comes to love.
