Beady Eye's problem was brand recognition. Noel had the Gallagher name, which helped his success, whereas, in my experience, a lot of older Oasis fans had not even heard of the name Beady Eye. That's why, in my opinion, Liam has had more success as a solo act. I like his solo work, but the two Beady Eye album's were just awesome. Had they been Oasis or Liam solo albums, they'd be hugely famous and held in very high regard by the music masses. A shame, though I certainly admire what they were trying to do.

BE was a joint venture between the 4 remaining members of Oasis. They invested their own money into the band and didn't sell enough records to cover their losses.
I don't agree completely with the "Brand Recognition" argument. It's important, but just like any new band, you need to build it up. BE were always behind the 8 ball b'cos of the inevitable comparisons to Oasis.
