06 Earthquake Weather
Beck Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Space ships can't tame the jungle
And I feel like I'm giving in
We've been drivin' through a desert
Looking for a life to call our own

I push I pull the days go slow
Into a void we filled with death
And noise that laughs falls off their
Maps all cured of pain and doubts
In your little brain

Something's coming sky is purple
Dogs are howling to themselves
Days are changing with the weather
Like a rip tide could rip us away

I push I pull the days go slow
Into a void we filled with death
And noise that laughs falls off their

Maps all cured of pain and doubts
In your little brain

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Beck's song Terremoto Tempo express a sense of frustration and longing for something more. The first verse begins with the statement, "Space ships can't tame the jungle," which could be interpreted as a metaphor for the idea that technology cannot conquer nature. It suggests that no matter how advanced our society becomes, there are still aspects of life that we cannot control. The second line, "And I feel like I'm giving in," indicates a sense of defeat or resignation, as if the singer has been struggling to achieve something but is beginning to lose hope.

The second verse paints a picture of a journey through a desert, a barren and unforgiving landscape. The search for "a life to call our own" implies a lack of purpose or direction in life. The repetition of the line "I push I pull the days go slow" creates a sense of monotony and frustration, as if the singer is trapped in a cycle of unfulfilling activity. The final lines of the verse suggest a desire to escape from this stagnant existence, to break free from the void filled with death and noise.

The chorus introduces a tone of anticipation and foreboding. The lyrics "Something's coming sky is purple" suggest the arrival of an event that could be both exciting and destructive. The howling of dogs and the changing weather create a sense of chaos and unpredictability. The final lines of the chorus, "Like a rip tide could rip us away," indicate a sense of danger or urgency, as if the singer is aware that they are in a precarious situation.

Overall, the lyrics of Terremoto Tempo express a desire to break free from the constraints of modern society and find a more authentic and fulfilling existence. The song suggests that despite our technological advancements, there are still aspects of life that we cannot control, and that sometimes the only way to find meaning in life is to embrace the chaos and uncertainty that surrounds us.

This almost sounds David Byrne-ish. I think it's excellent when they get into a variety of instruments like this. I like Rusted Root's sound.

@FreeAvidD honestly I think the stuff that Beck creates doesn't translate as well into live shows. Beck is a friggin genius though - never overdoes it, and has such an eclectic, amazing mix of styles.

figifa
