He first came to the music industry's attention with his collaboration with, and arrangements for, Keren Ann and his sister Coralie Clément. Finally earning a solo contract after many years of struggle, Biolay released his debut album, Rose Kennedy, in 2002. A concept album, Rose Kennedy looks at early 1960s America through the cataractic eyes of the late matriarch, who went from attending dinner parties to suffering the assassination of two of her sons.
Next up was Négatif, a double CD full of sometimes violent imagery surrounding a group of drifters, which included a disaffected, oddly sympathetic, american named Billy Bob. Biolay released two albums in 2005, A L'origine (translated: In The Beginning) is a darker, denser work than his previous outings, while Home is a light, sunny duet album with his wife, started when they noticed that they needed good road trip CD to listen to while on vacation. He has also written film scores, songs and arrangements for such beloved french stars as Francoise Hardy, Juliette Greco and Henri Salvador.
He worked with Elodie Frégé on her second album Le Jeu des 7 erreurs
(including lead single "La Ceinture") which was released in autumn 2006.

Alors vraiment
Avec le temps, on n'aime plus
The lyrics to Benjamin Biolay's song "Avec le Temps" discuss the passage of time and its effects on love and memories. The song reflects on how everything fades away with time, including the faces and voices of loved ones. The heart, when it no longer beats, signifies that there is no point in searching for more, and it is best to let things happen naturally. The lyrics suggest that time erases everything, even the intense connection one had with another person. The rain represents the search for that person, while the phrase "between the words, between the lines, and under the makeup" suggests the hidden aspects of a relationship. The song signifies how even the most cherished memories and relationships eventually vanish over time.
The lyrics also describe the loss of dear memories, referencing "one of those faces" that Biolay would search for in the gallery of death, and how tenderness fades away on Saturday nights. The song then discusses the disappointment of someone who was once believed in for something as small as a cold, and the sacrifices made for this person. It highlights how one can be dragged along like a dog, emphasizing the degradation caused by time and the emptiness that follows.
The final verse suggests a resignation to the passage of time. The passions, voices, and words of the poor are forgotten. The song advises not to return home too late or catch a cold, implying a desire to protect oneself from the harshness of the world. As time goes by, one feels aged and worn out, feeling cold and alone in a bed of chance. However, there is a sense of contentment and tranquility in this solitude. The years may have been lost, but with time, one's capacity to love changes.
Overall, "Avec le Temps" is a poignant exploration of the transient nature of love, memories, and the passing of time.
