“Blimp Rock excel in an area that few bands can get away with; pop or rock music with witty lyrics that straddle the line between sharply witty and outright comedy. Acts like Christian Hansen and The Burning Hell have both done this well, and Blimp Rock can count itself safely within their ranks. After all, how many bands could make a song about Lake Ontario lifeguards be entertaining?” -- Gray Owl Point
“Swampy, bong-littered grooves and slick, silvery guitar lines pepper the entirety of the album – a warm welcome for the summer to come and a sinful array of festivities. It’s a spoonful of Southern Ontario shtick that’s sure to please even the more cynical connoisseurs of scrappy garage rock.” – Beatroute
Oh Baseball
Blimp Rock Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A baseball was hit by good man named Joe
Bottom of the 9th and of course, the World Series Game
And the city some call T.O has never been the same
It was a truly seemly special baseball moment
I wonder if the city has really been so excited since
Even if those leaves with the playoffs or just win a game
Probably not, definitely no
But that doesn't mean there can't be another Joe
To make the people come together
And sometimes people come together
Like never before
And the people come together
Like never before
Touch them all Joe
Too bad it's just a game
The lyrics to Blimp Rock's song "Oh Baseball" capture the nostalgic sentiment and excitement surrounding a specific baseball moment that took place in Toronto in October of 1993. The song begins by referencing a city referred to as T.O, which is a nickname for Toronto. It sets the scene of a significant baseball game where a player named Joe hits a crucial home run in the bottom of the ninth inning during the World Series. This momentous event forever changed the city of Toronto.
The lyrics express the sense that this baseball moment was truly special and question whether the city has experienced such excitement since. It ponders whether the city's enthusiasm can be replicated with other sports achievements, whether it be winning a game or making the playoffs. The song acknowledges that while the city may never be exactly the same as it was during that unforgettable baseball moment, it doesn't mean there won't be other heroes who bring people together in a similar way.
Overall, the lyrics of "Oh Baseball" reflect on the impact and unifying power of sports, particularly baseball, on a city and its people. It celebrates the way a single moment in a game can generate an extraordinary sense of community, the coming together of individuals who are otherwise strangers. The final line, "Too bad it's just a game," somewhat lightens the tone, reminding listeners that despite the significance and emotional investment in sports, it ultimately remains a form of entertainment.

I came here after watching the season 1 finale of People Watching. Best decision I did today.

This song punches hard - always a first draft pick for a playlist to impress indie muso snobs and always gets the highest of compliments which makes me wish the Blimp Rock were embarking on their Eras tour... Love the meandering esoteric beginning singing about a Canadian road and then the distortion kicks in and those ending male-female harmonies are some intense perfection and suddenly this isn't about a highway any more...

I often come across comments about music like the one in this vid displaying "outrage" about how such and such has "only" so many views compared to inferior tunes garnering millions, and in some cases, billions.
I for one enjoy my exclusivity in knowing that I'm one of the few that can appreciate it separately from where it was featured in PW. Yes, it's what brought me here, but the tune is what keeps me here.
