Grunge may not have yet become a universal language, but it's translated credibly enough for Montreal's Bliss (Colin Burnett, David Bryant, Michael Stevenson, Sylvain Bouthilliette), whose "Grafted to an Elbow" (1993) is 11 tracks of grinding post-melodic post-punk. Produced by Chicago rancor-rock godfather Steve Albini, "Grafted to an Elbow" is oblique yet vehement, its unease with contemporary society conveyed more by TV- damaged titles like "Nature's Gentle Regulator" than by the cryptic, fragmentary lyrics spit out by David Bryant (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Set Fires To Flames).

All Across The World
Bliss Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
People fight to be heard
Cryin' for attention, darling
They all want the last last word
Lord, what is the answer
To everybody's prayer
When reason wages war against compassion and despair
Hard times sure worry me
Ain't givin' up, no no no, not me
It ain't just money
That makes it hard times
We gotta have some love...
We are all so fragile
Everybody's flesh and blood
We're all just children
Broken wings and so much love
Can't you see what we've got
Can't you see we've got a lot
Can't you see the love i loan ya
You can keep it for ever and ever
(repeat chorus 2x)
Well, to one man, he's a sinner
To the other, he's seen the light
To one man, he's a sinnin' man
To the other he's gone and seen the light
I'm warning you, i'm warning you, yeah
We've gotta have some solution
Gotta have some real reaction
I'm warning you, i'm calling you all over here
I wanna say something to you
I'm warning you about hard times
(repeat chorus 2x)
It ain't just lack of money
That makes these times so hard, no no no no
Hard times, hard times, are times without love
Hard times, let's make'em good times
Let's make'em real good times
Good good times
Good time.
The song "All Across The World" by Bliss reflects on the struggles that people face globally. The song starts by acknowledging how people in different parts of the world are fighting to be recognized, heard, and their voices counted. The desire for attention and recognition is a universal concern, and everyone wants to have the last word. However, this leads to conflict and a lack of understanding, and the question arises of what is the right answer to everyone's prayers.
The chorus expresses the artist's concerns about the difficult times worldwide but wants to remain positive and not give up. The hard times are not related to just money but require love and empathy to overcome. Love is the solution to our problems, and without it, we are helpless. Everyone is fragile and equally in need of love and care. We are all children with broken wings, and the love that we give and receive is what gives meaning to life.
The song then takes a turn towards the need for solutions to the problems faced by society. The artist realizes that we need real actions and reactions to solve these problems, and we should strive for a world where everyone is treated equally. One man may be deemed a sinner by some, but to others, he may have seen the light.
Overall, the song aims to bring attention to the world's problems and emphasizes the need for love, empathy, and compassion as the solution to the most complex problems.

Like waves to the shore, part of the ocean
The stars high above, part of the sky
Now I drift to you, I dream of a river
A water so blue, wish I could live there
Wish you were here
Wish you were here
Wish you were here
Wish you were here
Like the air that I breathe, you'll always be there
The wings that I need, when I wanna fly
Now I drift to you, I dream of a river
A water so blue, wish I could live there
Wish you were here
Wish you were here
Wish you were here
Like waves to the shore, part of the ocean
The stars high above, part of the sky
