Produced by Chicago rancor-rock godfather Steve Albini, "Grafted to an Elbow" is oblique yet vehement, its unease with contemporary society conveyed more by TV- damaged titles like "Nature's Gentle Regulator" than by the cryptic, fragmentary lyrics spit out by David Bryant (Godspeed You! Lovin' Come My Way
Bliss Lyrics

People come my way
It give me joy and then it leave me pain
Lovin' come my way
Build me up and it let me down...
Build me up and it break me down, lovin' you this way
Oh Lord, please find a way
Without hurtin' no one
Oh Lord, please find a way
To take me to his arms and let me sway
Sway sway to the rhythm
Oh Lord, please find a way
To take me to your heart and let me stay
Let me find peace there
You know my thinking and you know it's wrong
But I can't help it, no, I'm out of control
If it's a sin I'll sin it
If there's a price for my sin I'll pay it
If it's a sin I'll sin it
If there's a price for my sin I'll pay it
It give me joy and then it leave me pain
Lovin' come my way
Build me up and it let me down...
Let judgement come my way
I said, I say, if it's a sin I'll sin it
If there's a price for my sin I'll pay it...
It give me joy and then it leave me pain
Lovin' come my way...
The lyrics of "Lovin' Come My Way" are about the rollercoaster of love: the highs and lows of falling in love and its unpredictable nature.
The first verse emphasizes this, with the repeated line "Build me up and then it let me down." It illustrates the way love can begin as something exciting and positive, only to turn sour later on. The second verse brings a plea to the Lord to be able to find love without hurting anyone else. The following lines express the singer's desire to fall in love with someone despite knowing their thinking is wrong, expressing a willingness to pay any price for their sin.
Throughout the song, there is a sense of longing and desire for a fulfilling and lasting love, but at the same time, there is also an acknowledgment of its painful and unpredictable nature. The refrain "Lovin' come my way" reinforces this idea; Love is not something that can be controlled, and it can come and go with little warning.
Overall, "Lovin' Come My Way" is a song about the complexities of love and the emotional toll it can take.
