During 1970 and 1971, Wailer, Marley and Tosh worked with renowned reggae producers Leslie Kong and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
They released four albums before signing to Island Records in 1972. Two more albums were created before Tosh and Wailer left the band in 1974, citing grievances over label treatment and ideological differences. Marley carried on with a new line-up, including the I-Threes that put out seven more more albums. Marley died in 1981.
The Wailers were a groundbreaking ska and reggae group, noted for songs such as "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up" and "Get Up, Stand Up".

Chances Are
Bob Marley & The Wailers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sorry for the victim now
Though my days (though my days), are filled with sorrow
(I see) I see years
Of pride tomorrow
Chances, chances are
Some might not hold out
Though-oh-oh-oh my-my days, are filled with sorrow
(I see) I see years
Of pride tomorrow
Chances, chances are, some might not hold out
(Chances) chances are, hang on right now
Chances are (chances are)
Oh chances, you're my chances
Chances are (chances are)
Hang on right now (hang on, hang on)
Chances are
Chances are (chances are), hang on right now
Deal with loneliness (loneliness)
I'll take some tear drops
(Chances, chances are) we'll have to win
Chances are
Hang on right now
Chances are (chances are), chances are
The song "Chances Are" by Bob Marley & The Wailers is a reflective piece that speaks to the unpredictable nature of life. In the first verse, the lyrics "Chances are we're gonna leave now, sorry for the victim now" imply an impending departure or change, and a sense of remorse for those who may be left behind. The following line, "Although my days are filled with sorrow, I see here, a bright tomorrow" suggests that despite the difficult times, there is still hope for the future. The repetition of the phrase "chances are" reinforces the idea that life is full of uncertainties, and that there are no guarantees in the journey ahead.
In the second verse, the lyrics take on a more urgent tone, as Marley sings "Chances, chances are some might not hold out, chances are, hang on right now." This could be interpreted as a call to action or a warning to be prepared for whatever challenges may lie ahead. The final lines "Do do do do my days are filled with sorrow, I'll stay here til bright tomorrow" convey a sense of perseverance and a willingness to endure hardships in order to reach a better tomorrow.
Overall, "Chances Are" is a poignant reminder that life is a journey filled with twists and turns, and that we must be prepared to face whatever challenges come our way. The lyrics are a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and serve as a source of inspiration for those who may be struggling with their own uncertainties and hardships.
