During 1970 and 1971, Wailer, Marley and Tosh worked with renowned reggae producers Leslie Kong and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
They released four albums before signing to Island Records in 1972. Two more albums were created before Tosh and Wailer left the band in 1974, citing grievances over label treatment and ideological differences. Marley carried on with a new line-up, including the I-Threes that put out seven more more albums. Marley died in 1981.
The Wailers were a groundbreaking ska and reggae group, noted for songs such as "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up" and "Get Up, Stand Up".

See that we might get fed up
but tell the world this is just
another shake up
This world is mine it can be
yours my friend
All that I want you to do
is pretend
So you gotta rock to the rock
Sock it to the sock
Move and groove
Oh yeah, do do do dooo
but the trees have time to blossom
change their leaves
I tell the world that you've got
something up your sleeves
This world is mine it can be
yours my friend
All that I want you to do
is pretend
So you gotta rock to the rock
Sock it to the sock
Move and groove
Oh yeah, do do do dooo
So you gotta rock to the rock
Sock it to the sock
Move and groove
Oh yeah, do do do dooo
So you gotta rock to the rock
Sock it to the sock
Move and groove
Oh yeah, do do do dooo
Well you gotta rock to the rock
Sock it to the sock
Move and groove
Oh yeah, do do do dooo
Rock to rock, please change
Sock it to the sock, please change
move and groove
In the song “Rock to the Rock” by Bob Marley & The Wailers, the lyrics express the desire for change through the act of rocking and shaking things up. The first verse refers to people wanting to see others get fed up with the status quo, but the lyrics suggest that this is just another shake-up, implying that change is necessary and inevitable. The chorus repeats the command to “rock to the rock, sock it to the sock, move and groove” as a call to action for listeners to be a part of this change.
The second verse mentions the natural world and how even trees change their leaves and blossom over time. This is a metaphor for the need for human society to also adapt and grow. The lyrics suggest that the person being addressed has a secret or something up their sleeves that they should reveal to the world in order to effect positive change. Once again, the chorus emphasizes the need to rock, sock, and move and groove in order to make this happen.
Overall, the song can be seen as a call to action for people to create change in their lives and in the world around them. The use of imagery to convey the need for growth and adaptation, as well as the repeated commands to rock and move, create a sense of urgency and energy to the song.
