During 1970 and 1971, Wailer, Marley and Tosh worked with renowned reggae producers Leslie Kong and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
They released four albums before signing to Island Records in 1972. Two more albums were created before Tosh and Wailer left the band in 1974, citing grievances over label treatment and ideological differences. Marley carried on with a new line-up, including the I-Threes that put out seven more more albums. Marley died in 1981.
The Wailers were a groundbreaking ska and reggae group, noted for songs such as "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up" and "Get Up, Stand Up".

We gonna have a soul shakedown party tonight!
The way you love-a me, huh! It's all right!
When you put your loving arms around me,
And you hold me tight, holding me tight
This is my invitation
I got the special vacation
Just to feel your vibration
At that soul shakedown party tonight
We gonna have a soul shakedown party tonight!
Jane is in the back yard
Doing the outside dance
I'm telling you the other day,
She didn't even get a chance!
But this is my invitation
A just-a special vacation
I need your concentration
Just to, just to, just to (vibration) just to
(Soul shakedown party tonight) Baby, I need you tonight!
We gonna have a soul shakedown party tonight!
Hit it, brother, y'all!
The way you love-a me, it's all right! (It's all right)
When you put your loving arms around me (arms around me),
And you hold me tight (holding me tight)
This is my invitation
I got the special vacation
I need your concentration
Just to feel your vibration
At that soul shakedown party tonight!
We gonna have a soul shakedown party tonight!
Swing with me, baby!
(Soul shakedown party tonight)
It will be for two
The lyrics of Bob Marley's "Soul Shake Down Party" describe an invitation to a gathering or party where there will be a celebration of love and connection. The song mentions how the love between two people is just that, love, and that it is all right to express and share that love with each other. The reference to "holding me tight" suggests an intimate physical connection, of which the song seems to encourage.
The song also emphasizes the importance of being present and focused on each other's "vibration," which could mean energy or aura. It suggests that being fully present and engaged in one another is key to experiencing and enjoying the soul shakedown party. The lyrics also mention a woman named Jane doing an "outside dance," which could mean a free and joyous expression of dance or movement. This is echoed in the invitation to "swing with me, baby," which seems to invite a playful and joyful expression of love.
Overall, the song seems to celebrate the joy and connection of being in love, while also emphasizing the importance of presence and engagement with one another.
