Fossa
Boston Manor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's hard to see when the streetlights are out
I'll get a gas lamp and visit the house that you grew up in
I'm burning it down
I've got the answers and you'll be my kill
I'm sorry you're a victim of my will
Now my rooms been bleached, I'm burning it down

There really is no sense in diffusing all the tension when it's all we have, it's all we have right now

Do you feel low, are you feeling low?
(Are you still listening? Are you still listening?)
To the sad songs on the radio?
(Are you still listening? Are you still listening?)

Well can you taste the gin? Well I can't taste anything
I'm obsessed with myself
I'll put my picture on my shelf and I won't look at someone else until I smash the frame this evening

A letter that I wrote you, a cobweb on your door
A broken plastic window pane lying on the kitchen floor
A broken dirty mirror that's hanging in your hall
It's been lying to your face since the day that you were born

Do you feel low, are you feeling low?
(Are you still listening? Are you still listening?)
To the sad songs on the radio?
(Are you still istening? Are you still listening?)

I'm sorry those numbers are getting you down
I care more about the lines you wrote than the ones that make your frown
I'm sorry those numbers are getting you down
I care more about the lines you wrote than the ones that make your frown

There really is no sense in diffusing all the tension when it's all we have, it's all we have right now

Do you feel low, are you feeling low?
(Are you still listening? Are you still listening?)
To the sad songs on the radio?
(Are you still listening? Are you still listening?)

When all I'm asking you is am I on your mind today?
Or since I've been away has it got worse?

And all I'm asking you is am I on your mind today?
Or since I've been away has it got worse?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Boston Manor's song "Fossa" are layered and complex, touching on themes of self-obsession, personal destruction, and the fragile nature of relationships. The opening lines, "It's hard to see when the streetlights are out / I'll get a gas lamp and visit the house that you grew up in / I'm burning it down," set a dark and desperate tone, suggesting that the singer is willing to go to extreme lengths to try and feel connected to someone who has left them feeling isolated and alone. As the verse progresses, we hear the singer's voice become more frantic and erratic, as they describe their obsession with themselves, the way it prevents them from seeing others, and the damage they have caused as a result.

The chorus, meanwhile, introduces a note of introspection and reflection. The repeated question, "Do you feel low, are you feeling low?" seems to be directed both at the listener and at the singer themselves, urging each to consider their own emotional state and the impact it might be having on those around them. The final verse, with its reference to "letters" and "broken windows," has a more melancholy tone, suggesting a sense of regret and sadness at the loss of something once cherished. Overall, "Fossa" is a powerful and evocative song that captures the complex emotions and contradictions of modern life.

These dudes murder every track, idk if it's the accent or the lyrics or the choppy breakdowns or some combination of everything but they really only produce fucking jams

I listen to a lot of music but I don't think I've ever so hyped for an album before. These songs are truly magical and masterful.

tomgrizzyt

This such a tune! You guys are gonna be huge after Be Nothing drops, so proud of you all!

David Dangerfield

I am honestly speechless. Every song released so far has ignited emotions in me I thought had been long dealt with. I have always loved these guys but this album so far is on another level so far it seems Moose Blood, Boston Manor, and Trophy Eyes will take the top three spots for album of the year in my book as long as Boston Manor and Trophy Eyes stay on this same track as the songs they've already released any one else share this feeling? (and don't get me wrong there have been many many many other amazing, and worthy albums that have been released this year but these three seem to be the most progressed, and well put together in my opinnon)

Sean Grocott

Dude yes, Trophy eyes is going so hard with their new singles, I'm so hyped for both of the albums. also trash boat released a really great album this year too!

David Dangerfield

oh yeah their album was fucking amazing and a huge step forward for them as a band and defining their "sound"

James Ball

The intro to this song is so good, one thing that Boston Manor are really good at doing is building up with a decent intro into a banger of a tune, much like 'Gone'

good night moon

this album is going to be huge! proud of you boys <3

Alex DiCarlo

This whole album is perfect! Not one song do I feel like I need to skip over. I can't wait to catch these guys at Warped Tour!!
