Candlebox was known for an explosive live show and throughout their 8 year career, they toured with such bands as Living Colour, The Flaming Lips, Our Lady Peace, Rush, Henry Rollins, and Metallica. They were also a featured band on the main-stage at Woodstock '94 and made repeat live performances on the David Letterman show.
They are best known for the singles "Change", "You", "Far Behind" and "Simple Lessons". "Far Behind" entered Billboard's Top 20 in July of 1993 and didn't drop off the charts until January of 1994. The videos for "Far Behind" and "You" were in seemingly perpetual rotation on MTV and became two of the most requested videos of 1993.
Drummer Scott Mercado left the band in 1997 and was replaced by former Pearl Jam member Dave Krusen. Krusen later left the band in 1999 and was replaced by Shannon Larkin of Ugly Kid Joe. Bardi Martin also left the band that year, and was replaced by Rob Reddick (formerly of Dig). The band split in year 2000.
As of 2005, singer Kevin Martin is currently recording and performing as the leader of The Hiwatts. Peter Klett is currently recording and performing as the leader of redlightmusic.
In 2006, Candlebox has reunited with their original line-up. They went on a three-month North American tour beginning on July 1st of the same year. This marks their first collaboration since 1996.
In 2008, Candlebox released their fourth studio album called "Into the sun". This meant their return since 1998's Happy Pills. Also, they released a Live album called "Alive in Seattle" which includes tracks from all their past albums.
In 2009, Kevin Martin (along with Sean Hennesy, Candlebox's guitarist) helped form the super-group The Gracious Few with three of the members of the band LIVE. Functioning as lead singer, the band went on to release a self-titled album which accompanied an extensive tour. Though LIVE has reformed with a new lead singer, more material from The Gracious Few is said to be released in the future

But I did it anyway
And now maybe
Some would say your life was sad
But you lived it anyway
And so maybe
Your friends they stand around they watch you crumble
As you fall to the ground
Your friends they stand beside as you were flying
Oh you were flying oh so high
But then some day people look at you for what they call their own
They watch you suffer
Yeah they hear you calling home
But then some day we could take our time
To brush the leaves aside so you can reach us
But you left me far behind
Now maybe I didn't mean to treat you oh so bad
But I did it anyway
Now maybe some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain
No, no, no
Couldn't share the pain they watch you suffer
Now maybe I could have made my own mistakes
But I live with what I've known
And then maybe we might share in something great
But won't you look at where we've grown
Won't you look at where we've gone
But then someday comes tomorrow holds a sense of what I fear for you in my mind
As you trip the final line
And that cold day when you lost control
Shame you left my life
So soon you should have told me
But you left me far behind
Now maybe I didn't meant to treat you oh so bad
Oh but I did it anyway
Now maybe some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain
No, no, no
Oh No, no, no
Oh No, No, no,
Don't say it, I know, say I know, say I know
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I said maybe I didn't mean to treat you oh-so bad?
Oh, but I did it anyway
So maybe some would say you're left with what you had
But you couldn't share the pain
I said times have changed your friends They come and watch you crumble to the ground
They watch you suffer
Yeah they hold you down hold you down
Said maybe, oh, maybe I didn't mean to treat you bad?
But you left me far behind
Left me far behind
Left me far behind
The lyrics of Candlebox’s song “Far Behind” explore the complexities of regret, loss and the inability to connect emotionally with those we care about. The singer expresses feelings of remorse for the way he treated a loved one in the past, acknowledging that he may have caused them pain even though he didn’t intend to. Although he longs for an opportunity to make things right, it seems as though time has passed and he’s lost touch with this person. The haunting chorus “But you left me far behind” speaks to the distance that has grown between them and the singer’s inability to bridge that gap.
The verses go on to describe how the singer observes this loved one struggling and suffering, yet feels helpless to ease their pain. He recounts a moment when they were soaring high and their friends were cheering them on, but contrasts that with the present where the same friends stand idly by as they fall apart. The final line “Left me far behind” takes on a different meaning in this context - it’s not just about the physical distance between them but also the emotional distance created by their respective struggles.
Overall, “Far Behind” is a melancholy reflection on the ways in which life can take us in different directions, leaving us feeling disconnected from the people we care about. It’s a poignant reminder to cherish the moments we have with those we love and to try and bridge any gaps that may exist between us.

Im 23 and Been trying to find this song for nearly 20 years, only had a 3 second snip of the intro guitar riff off an old Sony video recorder of my dad's when I was riding with him In his truck in 2000. Lost him In 2001 when I was 3. This song is magical as it brings me back to a time where I had him in my life and glad to have finally found this song. Much love to all.
