Candlebox was known for an explosive live show and throughout their 8 year career, they toured with such bands as Living Colour, The Flaming Lips, Our Lady Peace, Rush, Henry Rollins, and Metallica. They were also a featured band on the main-stage at Woodstock '94 and made repeat live performances on the David Letterman show.
They are best known for the singles "Change", "You", "Far Behind" and "Simple Lessons". "Far Behind" entered Billboard's Top 20 in July of 1993 and didn't drop off the charts until January of 1994. The videos for "Far Behind" and "You" were in seemingly perpetual rotation on MTV and became two of the most requested videos of 1993.
Drummer Scott Mercado left the band in 1997 and was replaced by former Pearl Jam member Dave Krusen. Krusen later left the band in 1999 and was replaced by Shannon Larkin of Ugly Kid Joe. Bardi Martin also left the band that year, and was replaced by Rob Reddick (formerly of Dig). The band split in year 2000.
As of 2005, singer Kevin Martin is currently recording and performing as the leader of The Hiwatts. Peter Klett is currently recording and performing as the leader of redlightmusic.
In 2006, Candlebox has reunited with their original line-up. They went on a three-month North American tour beginning on July 1st of the same year. This marks their first collaboration since 1996.
In 2008, Candlebox released their fourth studio album called "Into the sun". This meant their return since 1998's Happy Pills. Also, they released a Live album called "Alive in Seattle" which includes tracks from all their past albums.
In 2009, Kevin Martin (along with Sean Hennesy, Candlebox's guitarist) helped form the super-group The Gracious Few with three of the members of the band LIVE. Functioning as lead singer, the band went on to release a self-titled album which accompanied an extensive tour. Though LIVE has reformed with a new lead singer, more material from The Gracious Few is said to be released in the future

Your role it played through time
Come and rescue me
You're needed here at home
And your space, a moment in time
A hand to hold a hand I tried
Who was it called to you?
Your story's alive with hellos and goodbyes
Bright lights, first kiss and drunken nights
How I miss you
I miss you now and
Hey, I can't wait another day
And hey, that crooked smile upon your face
Oh they'll never get old
All the stories you told
From the beach to the ring
To the songs of your soul
How I miss you
And the rain
Falling cold outside
Covered me the day you died
You could have waited one more day
I should have called
I dream of your life, the war and the fight
The music you played, the love for your wife
And I miss you
I miss you now and
Hey, I can't wait another day
And hey, that crooked smile upon your face
Oh they'll never get old
All the stories you told
From the beach to the ring
To the songs of your soul
How I miss you
And I miss you
I miss you now and hey
And I'm mad at the age
That stole you away
By surviving that beach
You gave me my stay
And I understand by this that I am
All that you were was changed by that sand
But I miss you
I miss you now and
Hey, I can't wait another day
And hey, that crooked smile upon your face
Oh they'll never get old
All the stories you told
From the beach to the ring
To the songs of your soul
How I miss you
How I miss you
At first glance, Candlebox's "Miss You" seems like a straightforward tribute to a loved one who has passed away. However, upon closer inspection, the lyrics reveal a complex mixture of emotions and memories. The opening lines, "All, all it's not alright / Your role it played through time," suggest a sense of resignation and acceptance that life can be difficult and unfair. However, the singer also feels a sense of urgency and longing, as they implore the departed loved one to "come and rescue me / You're needed here at home."
Throughout the rest of the song, the singer reminisces about the good times they shared with the loved one. They recall "bright lights, first kiss and drunken nights" and miss the stories the loved one used to tell, from "the beach to the ring to the songs of your soul." However, the song is not just a wistful tribute - it also contains anger and frustration. The singer is "mad at the age that stole you away" and wishes they had had more time together. They also feel guilty for not reaching out more before the loved one's death, regretting that they "should have called" and feeling haunted by dreams of the loved one's life and struggles.
Overall, "Miss You" is a heartfelt and emotionally nuanced tribute to a departed loved one. It captures the bittersweet emotions of grief - the nostalgia for good times past, the pain of loss and regret, and the longing for connection even after death.
