Seven Ways To Praise
Carman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Way back in the Bible, the Hebrew language says
That we were taught that we could praise the Lord in seven ways
Seven great expressions, seven different flows
Seven ways to worship God and this is how it goes

Number one is towdah (towdah), it's the sacrifice
Praising God in spite the fact that your world is in a vice
It's praise that pushes through the wall of all adversity
An offering that flows to heaven in our time of need

Somebody say mind (mind)
Praise the Lord (e)
Say body (body)
Praise the Lord (e)
Say body (body)
Praise the Lord (e)
Spirit (spirit)
Praise the Lord (e)

Number two's yadah (yadah), that means to lift your hands (lift your hands)
In response to what the Lord has done through the land
An outward sign of what's inside for all the world to see
A demonstration of our love so come praise the Lord with me

Can you wave one hand and say praise the Lord (praise the Lord)
Can you wave both hands and say praise the Lord (praise the Lord)
Now can you clap those hands and say praise the Lord (praise the Lord)

Number three is barouch (barouch), that simply means to bow
In the awesome presence of the Lord and all His power
To just be overwhelmed 'cause you hardly can believe
That you've been given favor by His Holy Majesty

Praise the Lord
Praise the Lord
Praise the Lord
Praise the Lord

This fourth one is shabach (shabach), it is what we call the shout
It's praise that's given way before the answer comes about
A public testimony that drowns out all the noise
Of whiners and complainers as the saints all lift their voice

If you believe that God's alive today, shout yeah (yeah)
If you believe that He's worthy of our praise, shout yeah (yeah)
If you believe the answer's on the way, shout yeah (yeah)

Number five is zamar (zamar), this one you'll like fore sure
It's playing any instrument that glorifies the Lord
Instruments that blast, instruments that strum
Instruments that keep the beat, so I'll praise Him on my drum

Six we call halell (halell), that means to rave and boast
And praise the Lord in such a way that gets you on your toes
(Wait a minute, wait a minute) What (Hey now, what did you say)
It's beyond just clappin' hands
But best of all, this is the one that makes you want to dance

Finally tehillah (tehillah), seven is the best
It's the one that is the combination of the rest
It's singing and it's shouting, it's dancing and it's more
It's wild, it's fun so everyone rejoice before the Lord

Praise the Lord (e)
Praise the Lord (e)
Praise the Lord (e)

Seven ways we can say
Everyone praise the Lord

Overall Meaning

Carman's song "Seven Ways To Praise" outlines seven different expressions or ways to worship and praise God. The lyrics suggest that these ways were taught in the Hebrew language and are still relevant today.

The first way to praise, called "towdah," refers to praising God even in difficult times or when facing adversity. It emphasizes offering praise as a sacrifice, regardless of the circumstances. It encourages believers to push through walls of hardship and offer their praise to heaven when they are in need.

The second way, "yadah," involves physically lifting one's hands in response to what the Lord has done. It symbolizes an outward demonstration of gratitude and love for God, meant to be seen by others. The lyrics encourage listeners to wave their hands and clap while praising the Lord.

The third way, "barouch," means to bow in the presence of the Lord, recognizing His power and favor in one's life. It suggests being overwhelmed with awe and reverence for God, acknowledging His majesty. The lyrics simply repeat the phrase "Praise the Lord" to convey this act of worship.

The fourth way, "shabach," is described as a shout of praise given even before receiving an answer to prayer. It is a public testimony that drowns out negativity or complaints and serves as a declaration of faith. The lyrics invite listeners to shout in agreement that God is alive, worthy of praise, and that answers are on the way.

The fifth way, "zamar," encourages the use of musical instruments to worship and glorify God. It showcases the variety of instruments that can be used to create joyful and rhythmic sounds, serving as a form of worship in itself.

The sixth way, "halell," denotes praising God in a way that goes beyond clapping hands. It involves raving, boasting, and expressing exuberant praise in a manner that gets people on their feet and makes them want to dance. This form of worship is characterized by enthusiasm and excitement.

Finally, the seventh way, "tehillah," is described as the best and most complete way of praising God. It is a combination of all the previous ways, incorporating singing, shouting, dancing, and rejoicing before the Lord. The lyrics emphasize that tehillah is a wild, fun, and joyful way to worship that brings believers closer to God.

Overall, the song's lyrics highlight the different ways one can praise and worship God, encouraging believers to engage in heartfelt expressions of gratitude, reverence, and joy. The seven ways represent diverse forms of worship that can be tailored to individual preferences, encouraging a deeper connection with God.

Towdah - Grace - First of God's Sevenfold Spirit - First Church of Ephesus - Mercy to Forgive.

Yadah - TRUTH - Second of God's Sevenfold Spirit - Second Church of Smyrna - Acknowledgement of Father God's identity.

Barouch - The Fear of the LORD - Third of God's Sevenfold Spirit - Third Church of Pergamum - Obedience to the command of Jesus.

Shabach - Wisdom and Understanding - Fourth of God's Sevenfold Spirit - Fourth Church of Thyatira - Prophecy - The correct interpretation of the tongues of the prophets in Scripture.

Zamar - Judgment - Fifth of God's Sevenfold Spirit - Fifth Church of Sardis - Our growth reveals our maturity and thus the dedication of those who claim to know and teach.

Halal - Counsel and Power - Sixth of God's Sevenfold Spirit - Sixth Church of Philadelphia - It is no longer we who speak but the Spirit who has grown in us who now reveals.

Tehillah - Fire - Seventh of God's "HOLY" Sevenfold Spirit - Seventh Church of Laodicea - The fire of God is the TRUTH revealed and the people the wood this fire consumes.

Jesus is LORD - Father TRUTH manifest visibly in mortal flesh - the Christ full of and displaying perfect LOVE, come down to save all in whom His "HOLY" sevenfold Spirit dwells. Be HOLY as God is HOLY - Grow!

It is not all song and dance is it........but is surely the fruit God seeks from those who belong to Him. Now read the seven letters to the seven churches of Revelation and listen again to what C-Man is telling you and you may just realize that God is in fact a wise and shrewd God and a God to be feared, who gives of Himself only to those who really do love Him and search for Him.

Do you hear the seven thunders? Take shelter - a firestorm is coming to cleanse the Temple of God of every liar, deceiver and God wannabee. Man is NOT God but God can dwell in a man if a man submits to God as in a marriage, the wife submits to the husband....
