King's major success began in the 1960s when she and her first husband, Gerry Goffin, wrote more than two dozen chart hits, many of which have become standards, for numerous artists. She has continued writing for other artists since then. King's success as a performer in her own right did not come until the 1970s, when she sang her own songs, accompanying herself on the piano, in a series of albums and concerts. After experiencing commercial disappointment with her debut album Writer, King scored her breakthrough with the album Tapestry, which topped the U.S. album chart for 15 weeks in 1971 and remained on the charts for more than six years.
King has made 25 solo albums, the most successful being Tapestry, which held the record for most weeks at No. 1 by a female artist for more than 20 years. Her record sales were estimated at more than 75 million copies worldwide. She has won four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She has been inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a performer and songwriter. She is the recipient of the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the first woman to be so honored. She is also a 2015 Kennedy Center Honoree.

But I can weather the storm!
What do I care how much it may storm?
For I've got my love to keep me warm
I can't remember a worse December
Just watch those icicles form!
Oh, what do I care if icicles form?
Off with my overcoat, off with my glove
I need no overcoat, I'm burning with love!
My heart's on fire, the flame grows higher
So I will weather the storm!
What do I care how much it may storm?
Oh, I've got my love to keep me warm
The snow is snowing, the wind is blowing
But I can weather the storm!
What do I care how much it may storm?
Oh, I've got my love to keep me warm
I can't remember a worse December
Just watch those icicles form!
What do I care if icicles form?
Oh-ho-ho, I've got my love to keep me warm
Off with my overcoat, off with my glove
I need no overcoat, I'm burning with love!
My heart's on fire, the flame grows higher
So I will weather the storm!
What do I care how much it may storm?
Oh, I've got my love to keep me warm
Carole King's "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm" is a feel-good winter love song that speaks of overcoming the harshness of winter with the warmth of love. At the beginning of the song, King acknowledges the harsh weather and frigid temperatures but declares that she can "weather the storm" as she's got her love to keep her warm. The lyrics depict a scene of winter where snow is snowing and the wind is blowing, and icicles are forming all around, but she's not bothered by it thanks to her love. The chorus repeats with the same melody, implying that the singer is so deeply in love that she does not care about the cold weather.
King's lyrics use a central metaphor - the warmth of one's love against the coldness of winter. The metaphor may reflect the writer's personal experience with love, but it is easy to relate to the core message, which speaks of the universal power of love in overcoming hard times. Throughout the song, King expresses a sense of warmth through the metaphor of burning love, where her heart is on fire, and the flame grows higher, painting a vivid picture of a love that can counter the cold, ice, and snow of winter.
In conclusion, "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm" is a simple yet beautiful song about the power of love. King's lyrics and melody remind us of the warmth and comfort that love can bring in challenging times, and it's a great reminder of the importance of love in our lives.
