Chara earned her nickname as a schoolchild from her teacher (charachara means "scatterbrained") and has been called such ever since. She has always been musically involved, she began composing music in her later years of elementary school and played keyboard in a band from her second year of high school.
One of the things that defines Chara's music is her singing voice. It is often described as sweet and whispering like a child's, yet forceful and sincere. Despite her very distinctive singing voice, Chara considers herself a musician first and foremost; proficient with instruments such as the piano, drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, synthesizer and tambourine. There are common themes to a lot of her music, including motherhood, innocence, love, beauty, and cheerfulness.
She has appeared as one of the main characters in 'Swallowtail Butterfly' movie and sang all the songs. The album 'Montage' is actually a vocal collection from this movie, that's why it was released under the name of Yen Town Band - which is a fictional band from the story. She has also starred in 'PiCNiC' where she played the mental patient Coco. She would go on to marry her co-star Asano Tadanobu (浅野忠信) in 1995. Currently, the pair have two children, a daughter Sumire (born 1995) and later a son Himi (born 1999).

In the lyrics of Chara's song "あいしていると誠実に目に語れ" (Speak sincerely of love in your eyes), the singer portrays a scene where someone is shouting loudly, questioning if it is the end already. The repeated pleas of "tell me, tell me, tell me" signify a sense of urgency and desperation for the truth. Despite the insistence to speak up, the person hesitates and cannot articulate their feelings eloquently. Instead, they imagine having someone else convey their emotions, saying, "This isn't a toy," implying a deep sense of sincerity and seriousness underlying their words.
The lines "Where are you hiding it? Holding an unsent letter in your hand, are you not going to speak? Will you continue to remain silent and unnoticed?" suggest a struggle with expressing one's innermost thoughts and the fear of being misunderstood or ignored. The act of reminiscing and the mention of "eyes that began to see" hint at a journey of self-discovery and emotional awakening. The theme of love being understood as both a beautiful yet terrifying emotion is explored, emphasizing the complexity and depth of human relationships.
The lyrics question if the person will eventually comprehend the true nature of love and the fear that accompanies such understanding. The hesitation to express love directly to the beloved ("Will you tell her your love through her eyes?") reflects a reluctance or uncertainty in openly declaring affection. The reference to a faint flame being a source of salvation implies that even the smallest gestures or expressions of love can have a powerful impact and bring comfort to those in need of reassurance.
As the song reaches its culmination with the powerful refrain, "Speak sincerely of love in your eyes," it serves as a resounding call to action for honesty and vulnerability in expressing love. The repeated urging to convey love through one's eyes emphasizes the importance of genuine emotion and communication in relationships. Ultimately, the lyrics convey a sense of longing, introspection, and the struggle to articulate feelings of love with authenticity and clarity, urging the listener to embrace sincerity and openness in matters of the heart.
